Development and validation of the geriatric trauma frailty index for geriatric trauma patients based on electronic hospital records

Fangjie Zhao et al.

Summary: The study established a frailty index for geriatric trauma patients by retrospectively analyzing electronic hospital records to identify patients with frailty characteristics and poor prognostic outcomes. Frail patients in the national validation cohort had longer lengths of stay and higher in-hospital mortality compared to non-frail patients. The index was found to be useful and applicable to Chinese patients in assessing the prognosis outcomes of geriatric trauma patients.

A CRHR1 antagonist prevents synaptic loss and memory deficits in a trauma-induced delirium-like syndrome

Silvia Cursano et al.

Summary: Elderly patients with severe physical trauma are prone to developing neuropsychiatric syndromes associated with the activation of the hippocampal CRH/NF-kappa B/BDNF pathway and subsequent loss of synaptic contacts. Intervention targeting these pathways can reverse the observed behavioral alterations in trauma-induced neuropsychiatric syndromes.

Temporal-spatial organ response after blast-induced experimental blunt abdominal trauma

Alexander Maitz et al.

Summary: The study investigated the organ and immune response after blast-induced blunt abdominal trauma in mice. A reproducible model with severity-dependent organ injury patterns, systemic inflammatory response, and multi-organ dysfunction was established. Trauma severity was associated with survival rate, hemodynamic changes, and systemic damage, indicating early impairment of organ functions post-injury.

Sensorimotor Cough Dysfunction Is Prevalent and Pervasive in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

James C. Borders et al.

Summary: Patients with PSP demonstrated significantly reduced cough motor function compared to PD, specifically reduced peak expiratory flow rate, cough expiratory volume, and cough inspiratory volume. Both groups showed similar reflex cough thresholds, but PSP demonstrated an increased perception of cough stimuli. These findings suggest that PSP patients have prevalent sensorimotor cough dysfunction, with cough motor deficits worse in PSP than in PD.
