Independent Component Analysis Applied on Pulsed Thermographic Data for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Inspection: A Comparative Study

Julien R. Fleuret et al.

Summary: The study found that Independent Component Analysis (ICA) outperforms Principal Component Thermography (PCT) in detecting small and deep defects in Pulsed Thermography (PT) data, with results influenced by the frequency of acquisition and the specific ICA method used.

Application of Pulsed Thermography and Post-processing Techniques for CFRP Industrial Components

F. W. Panella et al.

Summary: Several studies have shown the effectiveness of pulsed thermography in detecting and visualizing sub-superficial flaws in composites. Continuous improvement in thermal data manipulation has made active thermography a powerful method for industrial process control and maintenance. The main challenge in thermographic research currently lies in temperature image processing, with a focus on its simple and relatively fast industrial application.

Infrared Image Correlation for Non-destructive Testing and Evaluation of Materials

Vanita Arora et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the applicability of an active thermal non-destructive testing and evaluation technique using the Digitized version of linear Frequency Modulated Thermal Wave Imaging (DFMTWI) approach to identify flaws in a Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) sample. A novel Thermal Image Correlation (TIC) data-processing approach is proposed to compare the detection capabilities of various data processing approaches.

Quantifying the width and angle of inclined cracks using laser-spot lock-in thermography

J. Rodriguez-Aseguinolaza et al.

Summary: The method introduced in this work combines laser-spot lock-in thermography with finite elements modeling to accurately determine the width and orientation of tilted cracks. The agreement between nominal and retrieved values demonstrates the ability of the method to size even micrometric width inclined cracks.
