Cretaceous to Cenozoic controls on the genesis of the shelf-incising Perth Canyon; insights from a two-part geomorphology mapping approach

Rachel A. Nanson et al.

Summary: Perth Canyon is the second largest submarine canyon in Australia, and its formation process has been revealed using new bathymetry data. The canyon's morphology is influenced by factors such as seismic events and past climatic changes.

Initiation and evolution of knickpoints and their role in cut-and-fill processes in active submarine channels

Lea Guiastrennec-Faugas et al.

Summary: Submarine channels act as main conduits for sediment transport in the deep sea, with knickpoints playing a key role in morphological changes. The initiation and evolution of knickpoints in submarine channels, as well as the processes enabling their maintenance, remain poorly understood. High-resolution multibeam bathymetry data from the Capbreton submarine canyon reveal autogenically initiated knickpoints at meander bends over annual to multi-annual time scales, shedding light on cut-and-fill cycles in submarine systems.
