Paraprofessional Youth Mentoring: A Framework for Integrating Youth Mentoring with Helping Institutions and Professions

Samuel D. McQuillin et al.

Summary: The demand for child mental health services exceeds the supply, requiring more youth mentors to help alleviate this pressure. The framework for youth mentors proposes three plausible tasks that can simultaneously increase the number of youth receiving professional mental health services and reduce the burden on existing systems. However, the safety and effectiveness of task-shifting efforts require competency-based training and supervision.

Giving to others and neural processing during adolescence

Maira Karan et al.

Summary: Adolescence is a critical period of brain development where adolescents become more sensitive to social environment and engage in complex social decision-making. The research findings show that older adolescents tend to give more to known others than to strangers, and this differentiation may be linked with changes in neural processing among brain regions involved in social decision-making.
