Carbon-Iron Electron Transport Channels in Porphyrin-Graphene Complex for ppb-Level Room Temperature NO Gas Sensing

Yixun Gao et al.

Summary: Developing efficient room-temperature sensing materials and sensors for nitric oxide (NO) gas, a biomarker used in monitoring inflammatory respiratory diseases, is a challenging task. The introduction of Hemin into nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (N-rGO) to obtain HNG-ethanol results in a novel sensing material with superior gas sensing properties towards NO gas. The HNG-ethanol sensor demonstrates high selectivity, humidity resistance, stability, and a deep understanding of gas sensing mechanisms, providing guidance for future research on graphene-iron derivatives in sensing materials.

Strong near-infrared and ultrafast femtosecond nonlinearities of a covalently-linked triply-fused porphyrin dimer-SWCNT nanohybrid

Lulu Fu et al.

Summary: The study focused on developing a novel TFP-SWCNT nanohybrid with strong NLO performance under both nanosecond and femtosecond irradiation, showing particularly significant OL effect under femtosecond irradiation. The results suggest that covalently functionalizing carbon-based materials with TFP may be a promising approach for engineering adaptable photonic devices with broad-ranging NLO activity.

Highly efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production via porphyrin-fullerene supramolecular photocatalyst with donor-acceptor structure

Liping Liu et al.

Summary: A novel tetraphenylporphyrin-C-60 supramolecular photocatalyst with a donor-acceptor (D-A) structure, called SA-TPP-C-60, was successfully constructed. The self-assembly of covalently-linked D-A molecules resulted in a highly-ordered layered structure in SA-TPP-C-60. The strong D-A interaction in TPP-C-60 molecule led to a significantly larger dipole moment and the formation of a robust internal electric field in SA-TPP-C-60, resulting in ultrafast photogenerated charge separation and enhanced charge transport. Notably, SA-TPP-C-60 exhibited unprecedented long-lived photogenerated charge separation. As a result, the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance of SA-TPP-C-60 was greatly improved.

Azobenzene-Iron(III)porphyrin Hybrid Composite as a Light-Driven Molecular Spin Regulator: Some Promising Insights from DFT

Amrit Sarmah et al.

Summary: The photo-isomerization of azobenzene plays a crucial role in manipulating the spin state of the Fe(III) ion in the iron(III) porphyrin complex. The electronic changes triggered by azobenzene's light-induced isomerization affect the coordination sphere of iron and subsequently alter the crystal field splitting pattern. Density functional theory-based calculations confirm significant changes in the electronic properties of the system when azobenzene is coupled to a 2D porphyrin array.

A Two-Dimensional Polyimide-Graphene Heterostructure with Ultra-fast Interlayer Charge Transfer

Kejun Liu et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized large-area monolayer 2D polyimide and achieved scalable synthesis of 2DPI-graphene vdWHs through the co-assembly of graphene and 2DPI. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy revealed ultra-fast interlayer charge transfer in the structure, attributed to the interlayer cation-pi interaction between 2DP and graphene.

On-surface synthesis of singly and doubly porphyrin-capped graphene nanoribbon segments

Luis M. Mateo et al.

Summary: On-surface synthesis is a powerful tool for constructing large, planar, pi-conjugated structures that are inaccessible through standard solution chemistry, with graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) holding a prime position in nanoelectronics due to their outstanding properties. Using appropriately designed molecular precursors allows the synthesis of functionalized GNRs, leading to nanostructured hybrids with superior physicochemical properties. Porphyrins (Pors) stand out among potential partners for GNRs due to their rich chemistry, robustness, and electronic richness, but constructing GNR hybrids with such pi-conjugated macrocycles is challenging and examples are scarce.
