Daphnetin inhibits corneal inflammation and neovascularization on a mouse model of corneal alkali burn

Tianye Yang et al.

Summary: Research has shown that Daphnetin (DAP) can inhibit corneal inflammation and neovascularization caused by alkali burn. DAP acts by suppressing angiogenesis processes and the activation of downstream signaling molecules, and it can also alleviate the inflammatory response.

Gut microbiota in human metabolic health and disease

Yong Fan et al.

Summary: The intestinal microbiota plays a significant role in human metabolic health, potentially contributing to the development of common metabolic disorders when dysregulated. Current research is shifting towards cause-and-effect studies and utilizing high-throughput human multi-omics data to identify potential molecular mechanisms behind these associations.

The effect of different combinations of antibiotic cocktails on mice and selection of animal models for further microbiota research

Jing Xu et al.

Summary: The composition of gut microbiota can be altered by administering different antibiotic combinations, leading to changes in both the microbiota and host physiology. Antibiotic treatment also affects liver and renal function indices, and certain bacterial genera show negative correlations with these physiological changes.

Association between aging-dependent gut microbiome dysbiosis and dry eye severity in C57BL/6 male mouse model: a pilot study

Chang Ho Yoon et al.

Summary: This pilot study in C57BL/6 male mice found that aging-dependent changes in microbiome composition are associated with the severity of dry eye signs. Corneal staining increased and tear secretion decreased with age, while specific bacterial groups like Firmicutes and Proteobacteria were significantly related to dry eye severity.

Positive Effects of Oral Antibiotic Administration in Murine Chronic Graft-Versus-Host Disease

Shinri Sato et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found in a mouse model that gentamicin (GM) significantly suppressed systemic cGVHD phenotypes and ocular manifestations, and reduced inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrosis in cGVHD-targeted organs. Although GM maintained higher levels of regulatory T cells, there were fewer Th17 cells and IL-6-producing macrophages in cGVHD-targeted organs. These findings suggest that orally administered GM may have positive effects in a cGVHD mouse model.

Membrane-associated mucins of the human ocular surface in health and disease

Rafael Martinez-Carrasco et al.

Summary: Mucins are heavily-glycosylated proteins produced by wet epithelial tissues, including the ocular surface epithelia. Membrane-associated mucins (MAMs) play important roles at the ocular surface, maintaining wetness, lubricating the blink, stabilizing the tear film, and serving as a physical barrier. MAMs also function as cell surface receptors transducing information from the outside to the inside of the cell.

The ocular microbiome and microbiota and their effects on ocular surface pathophysiology and disorders

Pasquale Aragona et al.

Summary: The ocular surface flora plays a crucial role in the defense mechanisms of the ocular surface system, but its composition is influenced by various factors such as investigation methods, environment, diet, sex, age, and diseases. Understanding the composition and function of the ocular surface flora is essential for further research on the role of ocular surface dynamics in health and disease.
