Alloy design strategy to improve fluidity of Zr-based bulk metallic glass for near-net-shape manufacturing

Wook Ha Ryu et al.

Summary: In this study, a Zr-based BMG with excellent GFA, hardness, and improved fluidity compared to Vitreloy 106 was systematically developed using ZrCuNi liquidus projection. By tuning the composition in the ZrCuNiAl quaternary alloy system, BMG-forming alloy compositions with low liquidus temperature (T-L) can be designed. Additionally, the addition of Ag in ZrCuNiAl alloys can lead to higher hardness, lower T-L, and improved flow length.
