Why are we still using 3D masses for cluster cosmology?

Stijn N. B. Debackere et al.

Summary: The study shows that the abundance of galaxy clusters is highly sensitive to the late-time evolution of matter distribution. It suggests that projected aperture masses are better for cluster cosmology as they can be measured more precisely and are not affected by assumptions about density profiles.

Is diffuse intracluster light a good tracer of the galaxy cluster matter distribution?

H. Sampaio-Santos et al.

Summary: The study examines the relationship between diffuse intracluster light and galaxy cluster matter distribution, finding that while there is still no consistent evidence on whether diffuse light accurately traces the cluster matter distribution, it does serve as an excellent indicator of the cluster's total mass.

Galaxy clusters as intrinsic alignment tracers: present and future

C. J. G. Vedder et al.

Summary: Galaxies and clusters in the Universe show alignment with preferential directions, with clusters generally having higher alignment signal-to-noise ratio than galaxies. However, in the upcoming LSST survey, cluster alignment signals diminish quickly with increasing redshift, although clusters may have an advantage in their interplay with weak lensing compared to galaxies.

Measuring the surface mass density ellipticity of redMaPPer galaxy clusters using weak lensing

Elizabeth J. Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study examines the shape of galaxy clusters' projected surface mass density distributions using weak-lensing stacking techniques and finds that the mass distribution in the inner region is better traced by high membership probability cluster members, while the outer region is better traced by including less probable members. Furthermore, clusters with higher redshifts exhibit larger ellipticity values, and lower redshift clusters show higher ellipticity values in the outer region.

Halo cluster shapes: insights from simulated galaxies and ICL with prospects for weak lensing applications

Elizabeth J. Gonzalez et al.

Summary: A detailed study of the shapes and alignments of different galaxy cluster components using hydrodynamical simulations reveals that the distributions of galaxy members and intracluster light are less spherical than the dark matter component, but well aligned with its semimajor axis. Galaxy members hosted in more concentrated subhaloes are more elongated and better aligned with the dark matter component. Even with a low number of members, their positions can be used as suitable tracers for estimating the cluster surface density orientation.
