CaCO3 Nanoparticles Coated with Alternating Layers of Poly-L-Arginine Hydrochloride and Fe3O4 Nanoparticles as Navigable Drug Carriers and Hyperthermia Agents

Evgeny S. Vavaev et al.

Summary: Nanocomposite capsules containing magnetite nanoparticles have various biomedical applications. These capsules can be visualized using magnetic resonance imaging and optoacoustic imaging, and can be navigated and released remotely using magnetic fields. The magnetic moment of individual capsules, which is important for their behavior in magnetic fields, is determined by the amount of magnetite nanoparticles in the capsule. This study synthesized two types of submicron capsules with different amounts of magnetite nanoparticles and measured their magnetic moments using optical tweezers and vibrating-sample magnetometer measurements.

Effect of Size on Magnetic Polyelectrolyte Microcapsules Behavior: Biodistribution, Circulation Time, Interactions with Blood Cells and Immune System

Roman Verkhovskii et al.

Summary: Drug carriers based on polyelectrolyte microcapsules controlled by an external magnetic field show promise as a drug delivery system. However, the impact of capsule parameters on their behavior in vivo remains unclear. This study demonstrates how microcapsules of different sizes interact with vital organs, blood cells, and magnetic fields, affecting circulation time, cytotoxicity, and hemotoxicity. Small capsules circulate longer without affecting blood cells, while larger capsules are quickly filtered, inhibit macrophage proliferation, and cause hemolysis depending on concentration. These findings suggest potential strategies to optimize microcapsule parameters for efficient drug delivery without adverse effects on blood flow or cells.
