Toward Sustainable Elastomers from the Grafting-Through Polymerization of Lactone-Containing Polyester Macromonomers

Lucie Fournier et al.

Summary: As the demand for renewable and degradable alternative plastics continues to increase, researchers have developed a method for synthesizing fully biobased and degradable graft copolymers with tunable properties. By using a one-pot strategy, the researchers successfully synthesized graft copolymers with polymerizable lactone groups under mild conditions. The resulting materials exhibited highly tunable mechanical properties, making them suitable for various applications.

Poly(Lactic Acid)-Based Graft Copolymers: Syntheses Strategies and Improvement of Properties for Biomedical and Environmentally Friendly Applications: A Review

Jean Coudane et al.

Summary: Biodegradable bio-based polymers like poly(lactic acid) (PLA) have gained significant attention as potential alternatives to petroleum-based plastics. However, PLA has inferior mechanical properties compared to its petroleum-based counterparts. This review focuses on the use of graft copolymers with PLA backbone as compatibilizers to improve the properties of PLA-based blends. Various synthesis strategies and applications of PLA graft copolymers in environmental and biomedical fields are discussed.

Synthesis of fully degradable cationic polymers with various topological structures via postpolymerization modification by using thio-bromo click reaction

Yunkai Dai et al.

Summary: The study presented a facile method for the synthesis of cationic polymers with controlled topological structures and tunable charge densities using thio-bromo click chemistry. Three types of polymeric precursors were prepared and modified to yield cationic polymers with potential for biomedical applications. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and H-1 NMR characterization confirmed the successful synthesis of these cationic polymers with controlled molecular weights and topological structures.
