Network Pharmacology of Adaptogens in the Assessment of Their Pleiotropic Therapeutic Activity

Alexander Panossian et al.

Summary: Adaptogens, herbal preparations that affect multiple physiological functions and exhibit polyvalent pharmacological activities, are traditionally used in many conditions. Recent gene expression studies provide a rationale for the pleiotropic therapeutic efficacy of adaptogens, identifying specific molecular targets and adaptive stress response signaling mechanisms involved in their nonspecific modes of action.

Expression of the Stem Cell Marker ABCB5 in Normal and Tumor Tissues

Mohamed E. M. Saeed et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression of ABCB5 in various animal tissues and human tumor tissues. The results showed that ABCB5 was mainly expressed in specialized cells with secretory and excretory functions in normal tissues, as well as in the chorionic villi of the placenta, hepatocytes, and blood-tissue barrier sites in the brain and testis. Heterogeneous expression of ABCB5 was also observed in different tumor types.

Cytotoxicity of apigenin toward multiple myeloma cell lines and suppression of iNOS and COX-2 expression in STAT1-transfected HEK293 cells

Aveen N. Adham et al.

Summary: Apigenin shows potential as a candidate for multiple myeloma treatment, inhibiting the STAT1/COX-2/iNOS signaling pathway and promoting apoptosis in cancer cells. It also exhibits cytotoxic activity against a range of tumor cell lines.

Repurposing of the ALK Inhibitor Crizotinib for Acute Leukemia and Multiple Myeloma Cells

Joelle C. Boulos et al.

Summary: Crizotinib, as a first-generation ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitor, shows different sensitivities in various types of cancer cells and exerts cytotoxic effects through affecting gene expression and cell cycle progression. It demonstrated potent cytotoxicity towards acute myeloid leukemia and multiple myeloma cells, while the most sensitive cells were NCI-H929 multiple myeloma cells. Additionally, it destabilizes microtubules and inhibits DNA topoisomerase II catalytic activity, suggesting potential for treating not only NSCLC but also multiple myeloma.

Network pharmacology of triptolide in cancer cells: implications for transcription factor binding

Ean-Jeong Seo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of triptolide on NF-kappa B and GATA1, showing that triptolide can inhibit the growth of various cancer cell lines and has a promising inhibitory effect on NF-kappa B activity, making it a potential candidate for targeting NF-kappa B.
