Extraction of curcumin from turmeric residue (Curcuma longa L.) using deep eutectic solvents and surfactant solvents

Nhan Trong Le et al.

Summary: This study used deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and surfactant solvents (SSs) to extract curcumin from turmeric residues (TRs). Choline chloride-propylene glycol (ChCl-Pro) showed the highest yield among the solvents used. The optimized extraction conditions achieved a curcumin yield of 54.2 mg g(-1), which was 1.31 times higher than using methanol as a solvent. The recovered curcumin exhibited antioxidant and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities.

Chalcone and its analogs: Therapeutic and diagnostic applications in Alzheimer's disease

Pritam Thapa et al.

Summary: Chalcone, a small molecule with alpha, beta unsaturated carbonyl group, is considered a privileged structure in medicinal chemistry and shows a wide range of biological activities. Due to its small molecular size, cost-effective synthesis, and flexibility for modifications, chalcones are preferred candidates for therapeutic and diagnostic potential in Alzheimer's disease. Researchers are exploring chalcone and its analogs as single target therapeutic agents, multi-target directed ligands, and molecular imaging agents for AD.

A Diarylpentanoid with Potential Activation of the p53 Pathway: Combination of in silico Screening Studies, Synthesis, and Biological Activity Evaluation

Joana Moreira et al.

Summary: In silico studies identified potential new MDM2/X ligands, which were synthesized and evaluated for their antiproliferative activity in cancer cells. A potential dual inhibitor was discovered, with antiproliferative effects associated with cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and increased p53 and its targets.

Chalcones as Promising Antitumor Agents by Targeting the p53 Pathway: An Overview and New Insights in Drug-Likeness

Joana Moreira et al.

Summary: The p53 protein, a critical tumor suppressor, is often inactivated in cancer cells, either through gene mutations or inhibition by negative regulators like MDM2. Chalcones, natural compounds known for their potential antitumor properties, also inhibit the interaction between p53 and MDM2, showing promise for new cancer therapeutics targeting the p53 pathway. Research has focused on understanding and designing chalcones that interfere with the p53 pathway effectively.
