Our journey of developing dual-emitting metal-organic framework-based fluorescent sensors

Tifeng Xia et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) offer versatile structures and tunable luminescence characteristics, making them promising for various luminescence sensor applications. Ratiometric luminescent sensors, which utilize the ratio of two emissions within the same luminescent material, have been widely developed to overcome the limitations of single-emission sensors. This mini-review article summarizes the recent advances in synthesizing dual-emitting MOFs and their applications for ratiometric sensing of temperature, pH, biomarkers, water, and the related sensing mechanisms.

Optical properties and electronic structure of Eu(III) complexes with HMPA and TPPO

Summary: Two adducts of Eu(III) tris-hexofluoroacetylacetonate with HMPA and TPPO were studied in terms of their optical spectroscopy and quantum chemistry properties. Differences in the position of the excitation band maximum of hfac ligands were determined by the structure of the higher occupied molecular orbitals. The absorption, excitation, and luminescence optical spectra were obtained and interpreted, revealing the impact of HOMO-LUMO structure and the broadened absorption region of hfac ligands on the luminescence intensity.

Designing water-quenching resistant highly luminescent europium complexes by regulating the orthogonal arrangement of bis-β-diketone ligands

Mei Li et al.

Summary: Three mononuclear Eu3+ complexes based on bis-beta-diketone ligands (L-1, L-2, and L-3) were developed to reduce luminescence quenching caused by water, with high luminescence quantum yields (QYs, up to 50-67%) and excellent water-quenching resistant capability. X-ray crystallographic analysis revealed their self-assemblies with Ln(3+) ions in a 2 : 1 stoichiometric ratio form mononuclear anion complexes, [EuL2](-), with two ligands coordinating to the metal center in a mutually orthogonal manner, effectively protecting the complexes from quenching effects of water molecules.
