Nonadiabatic instanton rate theory beyond the golden-rule limit

George Trenins et al.

Summary: Fermi's golden rule (GR) is a leading-order theory in molecular reaction rate calculation. However, it becomes insufficient when the diabatic coupling increases, requiring higher-order terms. In this study, a new model beyond GR is derived from first principles, including new instanton pathways and considering the impact of diabatic coupling on the reaction rate.

Electron transfer and spin-orbit coupling: Can nuclear motion lead to spin selective rates?

Suraj S. Chandran et al.

Summary: This study investigates a spin-boson inspired model of electron transfer, showing that equilibrium results are invariant to the sign of coupling to infinite order, while nonequilibrium results do depend on the coupling sign, indicating possible electronic spin polarization.

NAST: Nonadiabatic Statistical Theory Package for Predicting Kinetics of Spin-Dependent Processes

Vsevolod D. Dergachev et al.

Summary: We present a nonadiabatic statistical theory (NAST) package for predicting kinetics of spin-dependent processes. The package can calculate the probabilities and rates of transitions between electronic states and account for quantum effects. It can be applied to large molecular systems and used to study slow nonadiabatic processes.

Modeling Spin-Crossover Dynamics

Saikat Mukherjee et al.

Summary: This article reviews the application of nonadiabatic molecular dynamics methods in modeling spin-crossover transitions, focusing on different representations of electronic states, interstate couplings, and various NAMD methods used. Representative applications, as well as fundamental questions related to spin processes, are also discussed, with suggestions for future methodological developments in NAMD.

Understanding and Controlling Intersystem Crossing in Molecules

Christel M. Marian

Summary: This article focuses on understanding intersystem crossing (ISC) in molecules, particularly the role of spin-orbit coupling (SOC). In addition to laying theoretical foundations, the article discusses qualitative rules for estimating transition probabilities and explores research on ISC mechanisms in organic light-emitting diodes.

Spin Crossover of Thiophosgene via Multidimensional Heavy-Atom Quantum Tunneling

Eric R. Heller et al.

Summary: The study investigates the spin-crossover reaction of thiophosgene and proposes the semiclassical golden-rule instanton theory. It is found that the increase in the speed of the spin-crossover reaction is mainly attributed to multidimensional quantum tunneling effects.

Summary: This article summarizes recent progress in the study of the electron spin selectivity and ESP of T1 state in triplet photosensitizers with strong absorption of visible light and long triplet state lifetime. The electron spin selectivity of compact orthogonal electron donor-acceptor dyads and compounds with twisted conjugation molecular structures is discussed using TREPR spectroscopy.

Release of CO and Production of 1O2 from a Mn-BODIPY Photoactivated CO Releasing Molecule with Visible Light

Shabnam Pordel et al.

Summary: Carbon monoxide (CO) has been shown to enhance the sensitivity of cancer cells to generate reactive oxygen species such as singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) from chemotherapeutics and reduce drug resistance. The introduction of two Mn-based photoactivated CO releasing molecules conjugated with an emissive BODIPY moiety can efficiently produce O-1(2) and increase the dark stability of the complexes.

Summary: This study demonstrates that at low temperatures, intersystem crossing (ISC) actually occurs solely within the quantum mechanical tunneling regime, and such an approach can help unlock a comprehensive understanding of a variety of spin-forbidden chemical reactions in the low temperature regime.
