Statistical Analysis of Factors Affecting the Anode Scrap Rate at the Khatoon Abad Copper Refinery Plant

Sina Shakibania et al.

Summary: This research investigated the operating condition at the refinery plant of the Shahrebabak copper complex and identified the effective factors on the anode scrap rate. The study found that after technical modifications, the plant experienced a significant increase in the scrap rate, which was correlated to the number of short circuits and anode passivation.

Copper sulfides leaching assisted by acidic seawater-based media: Ionic strength and mechanism

Leiming Wang et al.

Summary: The paper critically discusses the utilization of acidic seawater-based media (ASM) in copper hydrometallurgical industries, highlighting its catalytic effects in chemical/bio leaching processes. It also explores the pivotal ions and compounds present in ASM, their regeneration behavior, and the impact on redox potential, reaction activation energy, and leaching kinetics. Furthermore, the potential of ASM as an alternative to freshwater for accelerating copper sulfide leaching in water-scarce areas is highlighted based on previous studies and reviews.

Current Status of the Effect of Seawater Ions on Copper Flotation: Difficulties, Opportunities, and Industrial Experience

Constanza Cruz et al.

Summary: The limited availability of conventional water resources has led to the use of seawater in the flotation process of copper sulfide ores at several concentrator plants. The complex nature of flotation in seawater, with its different chemistry compared to fresh water, presents challenges that can be addressed by studying the impact of seawater ions on the process and drawing from industrial experience to find solutions for improved performance.

Solvent Extraction of Copper from Sulfate-Chloride Solutions Using LIX 84-IC and LIX 860-IC

Maria C. Ruiz et al.

Summary: The presence of chloride ions had a negative impact on the copper extraction equilibria in organic phases containing pure ketoxime and pure nonylaldoxime, with a larger effect on LIX 84-IC. Chloride ions accelerated the rate of copper extraction despite the reaction being fast in all tested conditions. Increasing temperature from 25°C to 35°C positively affected the extraction equilibria for LIX 84-IC.

Development of heterogeneous equilibrium model for lithium solvent extraction using organophosphinic acid

Junnan Lu et al.

Summary: Practices of circular economy offer promising solutions for the recycling of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, with the use of solvent extraction technology to recover lithium from synthetic leach solutions. The study developed a new heterogeneous equilibrium model to predict lithium extraction performance under different conditions, validated through isotherm tests. Significant impacts on extraction performance were found from pH, extractant concentration, and multivalent metals, while minimal impacts were observed from temperature, ionic strength, monovalent metals, and modifier concentration.

Understanding heat and mass transfer processes during microwave-assisted and conventional solvent extraction

Yujie Mao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of heat transfer in the mass transfer process of solvent extraction, showing that thermal conductivity and dielectric loss are good predictors of extraction performance. Microwave heating significantly increases mass transfer rates in biomass with higher dielectric loss, while below a certain power threshold, microwave and conventional extraction are equivalent.

Chalcopyrite Leaching with Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine Species in Acidic Chloride Media at Room Temperature: Technical and Economic Evaluation

German A. Moraga et al.

Summary: In Chile, the hydrometallurgical plants are operating below capacity due to depletion of copper oxide ores. An experimental study found that a leaching solution combining iodine-based oxidants and hydrogen peroxide in a chloride-acid medium can significantly increase copper extraction rates for hydrometallurgical processes. H2O2 concentration was identified as the most influential variable, followed by H2O2, H2SO4, NaCl, NaIO3, and KI concentrations in decreasing importance in affecting copper extraction rates.

Revaluating solvent extraction equilibria of trivalent rare earths with EHEHPA (PC-88A) using Alstad equation

Mikiya Tanaka et al.

Summary: This study successfully calculated the extraction equilibrium constants for certain important trivalent rare earth elements in solvent extraction by correcting the nonideality of the organic phase. The experiments at higher EHEHPA concentrations showed that the empirical equation remained effective in this scenario.

Decoupling the mechanisms in chalcopyrite flotation with high sodium bentonite content when using saline water containing divalent cations

Siyu Song et al.

Summary: This study identified the mechanisms of chalcopyrite flotation with high sodium bentonite content using saline water with divalent cations, Ca2+ and Mg2+. The decrease in pulp viscosity significantly enhanced copper recovery and grade at a certain concentration of divalent cations, while non-selective aggregation of minerals also affected copper grade. The findings suggest that the ion exchange interaction complicates the control of divalent cations concentration in industry flotation, but within a suitable range, both copper grade and recovery can be enhanced.
