Optimizing the Metabolic Performance of Mixed Bacterial Culture Towards Dibenzothiophene Desulfurization under the Effect of Varying Nutrient and Environmental Factors

Javed Khan et al.

Summary: Biodesulfurization is a promising method for reducing sulfur content in recalcitrant sulfur-containing compounds. This study optimized different operating parameters for the growth and desulfurization capability of bacterial consortium IQMJ-5, finding that the optimum conditions were 25℃ temperature, pH 7.6, and 0.3 mM DBT concentration.

Mutual inhibition effect of sulfur compounds in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene, 2-ethylthiophene and benzothiophene ternary mixture

Catalina Calin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene compounds using CoMo/gamma-Al2O3 and CoMo/gamma-Al2O3-Nb2O5 catalysts. The addition of Nb2O5 showed positive effects on enhancing the catalyst's surface area and acidity, leading to improved hydrodesulfurization activity for thiophene, 2-ethylthiophene, and benzothiophene. Additionally, a mutual inhibition effect was observed between sulfur compounds in the reaction, with Nb2O5 mitigating this inhibition effect to a certain extent.

Sulphate-reducing bacterial community structure from produced water of the Periquito and Galo de Campina onshore oilfields in Brazil

Samyra Raquel Goncalves Tiburcio et al.

Summary: This study investigated sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in produced water from two oilfields in Brazil, revealing significant differences in SRB between the fields and identifying dominant bacterial orders including Desulfovibrionales, Pseudomonadales, and Enterobacteriales. The GC oilfield was characterized by a high presence of Pseudomonas, while Pleomorphominas and Shewanella were predominant in the PQO oilfield.

Elevated c-di-GMP levels promote biofilm formation and biodesulfurization capacity of Rhodococcus erythropolis

Pedro Dorado-Morales et al.

Summary: Bacterial biofilms provide high cell density and superior adaptation, making them a promising approach for bioremediation. By promoting biofilm formation through heterologous expression of a diguanylate cyclase, Rhodococcus shows increased DBT desulfurization activity. This improved biocatalyst has potential for efficient removal of sulfur pollutants from fossil fuels.
