Determination of methylisothiazolinone in waters. Comprehensive study about electrochemical behaviour on gold electrode and optimization of square-wave voltammetric methods

Ma Lucia Abad-Gil et al.

Summary: In this study, the electrochemical behavior of MIT on a gold electrode was investigated and square wave voltammetric methods were developed for its determination at different concentration levels. MIT showed an irreversible and diffusion-controlled oxidation process, with pH-dependent potential and peak current values. By using square-wave voltammetry (SWV) and adsorptive stripping approach (SWAdSV), it is possible to determine MIT in water samples with high sensitivity and low detection limits. Both SWV and SWAdSV methods were successfully applied for the analysis of MIT in different water samples.

Parabens as chemicals of emerging concern in the environment and humans: A review

Fang Wei et al.

Summary: Parabens are commonly used preservatives in various products but recent research indicates potential endocrine-disrupting effects with varying levels of exposure around the world. Human exposure levels differ by country and types of parabens, with higher levels reported in the U.S. and EU countries compared to China and India. This review provides a foundation for future studies connecting paraben exposure with human health effects.

The controversies of parabens - an overview nowadays

Zvonimir Petric et al.

Summary: The effects of paraben toxicity, particularly its endocrine-disruption properties, have been a subject of research for decades. However, there is still debate on the hazards it may pose to human health. Current studies suggest that methyl-, ethyl-, and propylparaben are safe for use in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals within recommended doses, but alternatives would need rigorous testing for toxicity and safety.
