Are Highly Stable Covalent Organic Frameworks the Key to Universal Chiral Stationary Phases for Liquid and Gas Chromatographic Separations?

Chen Yuan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that two olefin-linked covalent organic frameworks (COFs) featuring chiral crown ether groups can be general chiral stationary phases (CSPs) for extensive separation in gas chromatography (GC) and both normal-phase and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). These COFs show high stability under different chemical environments and have the ability for enantioselective recognition of guest molecules.

Preparation and evaluation of an ionic liquid embedded C18 and cellulose co-functionalized stationary phase with mixed-mode and chiral separation abilities

Jingqiu Zhou et al.

Summary: A novel multimode stationary phase Sil-VMB-NCAD was successfully synthesized using thiol-ene click chemistry, showing enantiomeric separation ability. Characterization methods included NMR, EA, TGA, and FT-IR. The column exhibited multiple retention mechanisms for various analytes and successful enantioseparation.

Chiral HPLC separation and simulation studies of two chiral centered bis-imino flavans (Schiff base)

Imran Ali et al.

Summary: The biological activities of flavanone and hesperetin were enhanced by synthesizing Schiff base types molecules, which were characterized and separated by HPLC. The free energy calculations showed the favorable range of intercalated length. The chiral mechanism and modeling results confirmed the binding order of enantiomers and their evaluation in urine samples.

A porous layer open-tubular capillary column supported with pepsin and zeolitic imidazolate framework for enantioseparation of four basic drugs in capillary electrochromatography

Mingxuan Ma et al.

Summary: A new material, zeolitic imidazolate framework-4, 5-imidazoledicarboxylic acid (ZIF-IMD), was prepared on a PLOT column previously functionalized with N-(3-aminopropyl)-imidazole via a layer-by-layer self-assembly strategy. This ZIF-IMD coating hybrid was used as a solid-phase carrier for pepsin immobilization, leading to improved chiral separation performance compared to the column without ZIF-IMD material. Various parameters were systematically evaluated to optimize the enantioseparation conditions, achieving baseline separation of HCQ, CHQ, and HXY with high resolution.

Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin encapsulated stationary phase based on silica monolith particles for enantioseparation in liquid chromatography

Yao Lu et al.

Summary: A new method for developing a chiral stationary phase for enantioseparation in liquid chromatography was introduced by incorporating hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin-encapsulated stationary phase on silica monolith particles through physical embedding. The experimental results show promising potential in separating chiral enantiomers using sol-gel ground silica particles modified with beta-cyclodextrin.

Cyclodextrins as mobile phase additives in open-tubular admicellar electrochromatography for achiral and chiral separations

Raymond B. Yu et al.

Summary: Native cyclodextrins were studied as chiral selectors in open-tubular admicellar electrochromatography using CTAB as dynamic stationary pseudophase. An increase in the CD concentration decreased the magnitude of the EOF, leading to reduced retention factors of the tested analytes as no admicelles or stationary pseudophase were formed under certain conditions.
