One-class classification of special agroforestry Brazilian coffee using NIR spectrometry and chemometric tools

Monis Neves Baptista Manuel et al.

Summary: In this study, near-infrared spectrometry combined with one-class classification method was used for quality control of agroforestry-grown specialty coffee, with successful verification of the authenticity of the samples. The model achieved a high correct classification rate and demonstrated its effectiveness in distinguishing specialty coffee from non-specialty types.

Data fusion of middle-resolution NMR spectroscopy and low-field relaxometry using the Common Dimensions Analysis (ComDim) to monitor diesel fuel adulteration

Leticia Magalhaes de Aguiar et al.

Summary: The study investigates the enhancement of low-field NMR capability for fuel analysis through data fusion of MR and TD-NMR, using ComDim for exploration, classification, and quantification of common fuel adulterations. Models built using ComDim scores achieved 100% accuracy in classifying fuel sources, sulfur content, vegetable oil, and biodiesel sources, with comparable predictive accuracy to existing literature for diesel, vegetable oil, and biodiesel content determination.

Effect of processing on the bioaccessibility of essential minerals in goat and cow milk and dairy products assessed by different static in vitro digestion models

Jose Luan Da Paixao Teixeira et al.

Summary: The study found that goat milk and dairy products have a higher bioaccessibility of calcium and magnesium compared to cow milk and dairy products. The processing of milk affects the mineral bioaccessibility, and the food structure, composition, and mineral equilibrium play a significant role in predicting in vitro digestion and bioaccessibility. Cheeses have a higher potential absorption of calcium and zinc compared to milks and yogurts, and the bioaccessibility evaluated by the solubility method is higher than that obtained by the dialysis method for all products evaluated.

Fluorescence spectroscopy in tandem with chemometric tools applied to milk quality control

Carini Aparecida Lelis et al.

Summary: Fluorescence spectroscopy coupled with chemometric tools is used to detect milk authenticity and prevent fraudulent adulterations. Different levels of whey adulteration in milk lead to changes in fluorescence spectra, with supervised methods showing more efficient performance in distinguishing between genuine and adulterated milk.

X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and Monte Carlo simulation for quantitative characterization of Bolivianpre-Hispanicgolden artefacts

Fabio L. Melquiades et al.

Summary: Quantifying archaeological artefacts using X-ray Fluorescence is complex and requires calibration procedures. This study introduced a quantitative method for a ternary gold alloy by combining Monte Carlo simulation with in situ portable XRF measurements to bypass the need for standard reference materials. The results demonstrated that this combined method is feasible for gold alloy quantification, with discussions on the peculiarities of the archaeological context of the artefacts.

Compact low-field NMR spectroscopy and chemometrics applied to the analysis of edible oils

Diego Galvan et al.

Summary: Compact nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy combined with chemometric tools provides new perspectives for quality control of edible oils. This study compares the potential of different MHz NMR spectroscopy and found that models built on these spectra have equivalent performances. Compared to classical methods, this new approach allows quick spectrum acquisition without the need for sample preparation or deuterated solvents.

Evaluation of pre-processing and variable selection on energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectral data with partial least square regression: A case of study for soil organic carbon prediction

Felipe Rodrigues dos Santos et al.

Summary: Most studies using EDXRF for soil fertility attribute measurement primarily focus on elemental concentration data, leading to potential information loss in EDXRF spectra. This study evaluated different pre-processing and variable selection methods for partial least square regression models using EDXRF spectral data, concluding that Poisson scaling + mean center and successive projection algorithm for interval selection improved model performance significantly. The 15 kV condition models with specific pre-processing methods showed the highest accuracy and precision, demonstrating the feasibility of soil organic carbon determination using EDXRF spectral data.

Rapid adulteration detection of yogurt and cheese made from goat milk by vibrational spectroscopy and chemometric tools

Jose Luan da Paixao Teixeira et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the capability of vibrational spectroscopy Near Infrared coupled with chemometric tools in detecting goat dairy products adulterated with cow milk, offering potential commercial applications. Different analytical tools were able to effectively differentiate products adulterated with varying proportions of cow milk, showing good identification and discrimination abilities, providing a feasible method for authenticity testing of products.
