Integral approach for the evaluation of poultry manure, compost, and digestate: Amendment characterization, mineralization, and effects on soil and intensive crops

Pedro Federico Rizzo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of composting and anaerobic digestion processes on poultry manure, and their effects on soil and crop. The results showed that compost and digestate were more suitable as organic soil amendments compared to raw poultry manure, with compost exhibiting stability and maturity conditions. Moreover, high doses of poultry manure and digestate increased crop biomass production but also had negative environmental impacts.

Evaluation of nutrient characteristics and bacterial community in agricultural soil groups for sustainable land management

Sumeth Wongkiew et al.

Summary: The soil bacterial community plays a critical role in understanding soil biological processes and agricultural soil management. By classifying soils into different groups based on physical-chemical characteristics and studying their relationships with soil nutrient characteristics and bacterial community, soil management strategies can be suggested.

Physico-Chemical and Metagenomic Profile Analyses of Animal Manures Routinely Used as Inocula in Anaerobic Digestion for Biogas Production

Asheal Mutungwazi et al.

Summary: This study compared the microbial composition of cow, pig, chicken, and horse manures commonly used for biogas production and found that the degradation efficiency and methane yield vary depending on the inoculum used. Animals with similar gastrointestinal tract physiologies largely exhibit similar microbial communities in their manures, while animals with different gastrointestinal tracts may still share common microbial communities due to similar diets and rearing conditions.

Does fresh farmyard manure introduce surviving microbes into soil or activate soil-borne microbiota?

Mikhail Semenov et al.

Summary: Manure inputs into soil can significantly impact soil microbial communities, increasing microbial biomass and diversity mainly through activation of soil-borne microbes. Most exogenous microbes from manure do not survive in soil conditions after a few months.
