Development of ultrafine grained cobalt-free AlCrFe2Ni2 high entropy alloy with superior mechanical properties by thermo-mechanical processing

B. Tripathy et al.

Summary: The microstructure and properties of cobalt-free AlCrFe2Ni2 high entropy alloy were investigated both in the as-cast condition and after severe cold-rolling and annealing. The alloy showed a heterogeneous microstructure with a high fraction of ductile FCC phase, allowing heavy cold-rolling and resulting in intriguing microstructural features. After annealing, the alloy exhibited ultrafine microduplex structure with significant resistance to grain growth, leading to high yield and tensile strength coupled with appreciable elongation.

Optimize the Mechanical Properties of Al0.6CoCrFeNi High-Entropy Alloys by Thermo-Mechanical Processing

Huijun Yang et al.

Summary: The phase stability, microstructural evolution, and mechanical properties of Al0.6CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) under different thermo-mechanical treatments were systematically investigated. The study observed the presence of face center cubic (FCC) matrix, B2 and minor Body Center Cubic (BCC) phases in the as-cast state, and noted the evolution of B2 precipitate morphology from needle-like to droplet-shaped after annealing at different temperatures. The research successfully analyzed the resulting yield stress of this FCC/B2 duplex-phase HEA, attributing it to contributions from solid solution strengthening, precipitate strengthening, grain boundary hardening, and dislocation hardening.

Mechanical performances and processing-property modeling for Al0.3CoCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy

Wenhui Guo et al.

Summary: The mechanical performances of Al0.3CoCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy are strongly influenced by processing technology. This study investigates the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy after solution treatment, cold rolling, and annealing, and utilizes backpropagation artificial neural network models to predict its properties. The results demonstrate that twinning induced plasticity contributes to the strength and plasticity of the alloy, while excellent phase stability is observed in both solid solution and cold rolling conditions. The neural network models achieve an average accuracy of 93.4% in predicting elongation, yield, and tensile strength, showing a remarkable agreement with experimental results. The importance of parameters is assessed, with reduction rate, annealing temperature, and solutionizing temperature identified as significant factors.

Ahad Rezaee et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Cr2Fe2NiCo0.67Cu0.67Ti0.33 high-entropy alloy after homogenisation. The results show that the heat treatment resulted in a change in the crystal structure of the alloy, forming two different solid solutions. Additionally, precipitates enriched with titanium and copper were found in the microstructure, which had an impact on the hardness.

Effect of grain size on the low-cycle fatigue behavior of carbon-containing high-entropy alloys

Seyed Amir Arsalan Shams et al.

Summary: The effect of grain size on the tensile and cyclic deformation behaviors of carbon-containing CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloys was studied. Different microstructures with varying average grain sizes were obtained through heat treatment, showing that refining the grain size can increase strength and extend fatigue life. However, the presence of coarse carbides in the microstructure can reduce fatigue life, indicating that controlling the thermomechanical treatment to achieve fine-grained microstructures without precipitation of coarse carbides is essential for improving fatigue life in carbon-containing high-entropy alloys like Cantor.
