Heat waves interference regarding dual-phase-lag, hyperbolic and Fourier heat conduction in CNT reinforced composites under a thermal shock

Amin Pourasghar et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of transient heat conduction on heatwave interference and the overshooting phenomenon in CNT-reinforced composites. Three contributions are added to the existing literature: solving the nonlinear DPL heat conduction equations using DQM, showing the effects of CNT volume fraction and distribution on transient heat conduction, and demonstrating heatwave interference and high-temperature gradient as the origins of the overshooting phenomenon.

Negative Thermal Expansion of Carbon Nanotube Bundles

Leysan Kh Galiakhmetova et al.

Summary: Aligned carbon nanotube bundles exhibit negative lateral thermal expansion under lateral loading and heating conditions. The coefficient of thermal expansion is practically constant up to 1500 K and does not depend on biaxial lateral compression. This anomalous behavior is explained by the elliptization of the CNT cross section and bending of the CNT walls by thermal fluctuations.

Local ultra-densification of single-walled carbon nanotube films: Experiment and mesoscopic modeling

Artem K. Grebenko et al.

Summary: Fabricating nanostructured metasurfaces is a significant challenge, as the nanoscale patterning and control of optical properties remains unresolved. This study reports the application of atomic force microscope lithography for nanoscale patterning of single-walled carbon nanotube films and the associated tuning of optical reflection coefficient. The findings from simulations of nanotube samples and predictions of their impact on mechanical properties support the development of patterned optical devices using nanofibrous matter.

Computationally Guided Design of Large-Diameter Carbon Nanotube Bundles for High-Strength Materials

Hao Xu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that large-diameter CNTs synthesized by FC-CVD can form unique bundle structures with collapsed packing not found in other types of CNT yarns, showing wide variability in cross-sectional shapes during the bundling process. Detailed quantification of CNT diameters, shapes, and number of walls is achieved through TEM images and MD simulations. This research provides insights into the spontaneous collapse of large-diameter CNTs during bundling, potentially leading to improved packing efficiencies and mechanical properties.

The Radial Response of a Carbon Nanotube to Dynamic Pressure

S. Dmitriev et al.

Summary: The radial dynamics of a single-walled carbon nanotube under dynamic compression is studied using a linear formulation and the Kirchoff hypotheses. An effective parameter is found by comparing eigenfrequencies within the molecular dynamics and elastic shell theory framework. The study explores vibratory motion and exponential deflection growth regimes based on the ratio of applied external pressure to critical static pressure.
