A Dynamic Analysis of Randomly Oriented Functionally Graded Carbon Nanotubes/Fiber-Reinforced Composite Laminated Shells with Different Geometries

Ammar Melaibari et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the free vibration behavior of composite laminated shells reinforced by randomly oriented single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and functionally graded fibers. The study considers different geometries and boundary conditions to analyze the influence of various factors on the vibration behavior, and proposes an effective theoretical tool for analyzing the free vibration response of shells.

Nonlinear stability analysis of thin-walled I-section laminated composite curved beams with elastic end restraints

Sixin Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents a semi-analytical solution for critical buckling load and nonlinear load-deflection relationship of I-section laminated composite curved beams with elastic end restraints. The accuracy of the solution is verified and compared with the finite element method using ABAQUS. Factors such as geometry, imperfections, layup, and stiffness are evaluated to shed light on the nonlinear stability behavior.

Analysis of non-uniform polygonal cross-sections for thin-walled functionally graded straight and curved beams

Tan-Tien Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study provides a thorough analysis of thin-walled functionally graded beams using a high-order approach, taking into account various influencing factors such as material distribution and geometric continuity from multiple patches. The method effectively captures all behaviors of the beam and allows for blended coupling of beam-shells with different curvatures.

Nonlinear hygrothermal vibration and buckling analysis of imperfect FG-CNTRC cylindrical panels embedded in viscoelastic foundations

K. Foroutan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear dynamic hygrothermal buckling behavior of imperfect functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite cylindrical panels under a hygrothermal environment. Various factors such as temperature, moisture, material parameters, etc. are considered in relation to their influence on the system behavior.

Effect of the Test Procedure and Thermoplastic Composite Resin Type on the Curved Beam Strength

Robin Hron et al.

Summary: The application of thermoplastic composites in aircraft construction is increasing. This study compared the mechanical behavior of three carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites, showing significantly different results when evaluated using different standards. The relatively new PAEK composite outperformed the older PPS and PEEK composites, with good potential for use in aerospace production due to its lower processing temperature.

Higher order theories for the vibration study of doubly-curved anisotropic shells with a variable thickness and isogeometric mapped geometry

Francesco Tornabene et al.

Summary: An innovative strategy based on the Equivalent Single Layer approach is proposed to analyze doubly-curved shells made of anisotropic materials, using the Hamiltonian Principle and GDQ method for numerical solution. Several examples were provided to validate the method, and a large parametric investigation was conducted to assess the sensitivity of vibration response in generally-curved shell structures.

Higher order formulations for doubly-curved shell structures with a honeycomb core

Francesco Tornabene et al.

Summary: An innovative model based on Equivalent Single Layer (ESL) approach and higher order theories is proposed to accurately estimate the vibrational response of shells, compared with predictions from a classical Finite Element Method (FEM). The study includes a comparative analysis on aluminum sandwich plates with various cell configurations and sensitivity analysis on panels with different cell typologies. Numerical solutions are obtained using the 2D Generalized Differential Quadrature (GDQ) method.
