Extremely improved formability of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys via micro-domain heterogeneous structure

Liangliang Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, a heterogeneous microstructure in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys was reported, which showed greatly improved formability by controlling the solute gradient distribution and employing a novel thermomechanical processing. The structure consisted of coarse grains surrounded by fine grains, and the synergy of soft/hard microdomains contributed to the unusual high formability.

Enhanced stiffness of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys via heterogeneous structure of soft and hard microdomains

Liangliang Yuan et al.

Summary: A novel thermomechanical processing technique was used to construct a heterogeneous microstructure in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys. This resulted in a cellular bi-modal grain structure with coarse grains surrounded by fine grains, leading to changes in precipitation and deformation behaviors, and significantly improved stiffness compared to alloys with uniform microstructure.

Improvement in the anisotropic mechanical properties and formability of Al-Si-Mg-Cu-based alloy sheets

Summary: By refining the recrystallized grain sizes, the yield strength and elongation of Al-Si-Mg-Cu-based alloy sheets can be improved while reducing anisotropy. Grain refinement leads to random grain orientations, increasing the plastic strain ratio and optimizing formability.

Synergy in hybrid multi-scale particles for the improved formability of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys

Liangliang Yuan et al.

Summary: The study found that hybrid multi-scale particles formed by novel thermomechanical processing can improve the microstructure, texture, and formability of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys in the pre-aging condition. The effect is related to the type, distribution, interactions, and processing method of the particles, showing great potential for increased applications of high strength Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys with high formability.

Dislocation density model and microstructure of 7A85 aluminum alloy during thermal deformation

Hu Jian-liang et al.

Summary: The microstructure evolution of 7A85 aluminum alloy under different temperatures and strain rates is mainly achieved through two mechanisms, dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization, with a transformation zone between 350-400 degrees Celsius. An increase in temperature significantly raises the average misorientation angle and decreases f(LAGBs).

A comparison study of microstructure, texture and mechanical properties between two 6xxx aluminum alloys

Xiaofeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study compared two 6xxx aluminum alloys and found differences in microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties. The alloy with a lower Mg to Si ratio exhibited slightly higher yield strength and ultimate tensile strength, but higher plastic strain ratio and elongation. On the other hand, the alloy with a higher Mg to Si ratio showed weaker recrystallization texture and weaker mechanical properties.

Quench sensitivity and microstructures of high-Zn-content Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys with different Cu contents and Sc addition

Ying-hao Peng et al.

Summary: The study found that 7xxx aluminum alloys with high zinc content and Sc addition exhibit higher hardness and increased quench sensitivity. Increasing zinc and copper content leads to higher density of eta and T phases, while Sc addition promotes the formation of Y phase and more eta phases. Compared to the 7085 alloy, simultaneous increase in zinc content and decrease in copper content can enhance hardness and reduce quench sensitivity.
