Texture induced planar anisotropy of dwell fatigue response in titanium: Insights from experiments and crystal plasticity simulations

K. U. Yazar et al.

Summary: This study elucidates the mechanism behind the planar anisotropy induced by texture in the dwell fatigue response of commercially pure titanium sheets at ambient temperature. The loading along the rolling direction (RD) showed significantly better dwell fatigue resistance compared to the loading along the transverse direction (TD). Texture caused differences in strain hardening and strain rate sensitivity (SRS), altering the dwell fatigue response between RD and TD. Higher strain hardening and lower SRS in the RD direction synergistically led to higher dwell fatigue life compared to the TD direction.

Correlation of the anisotropic hardening behavior and texture features of cold rolled Zr-4 sheet under uniaxial tension

Huan Liu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the mechanical behavior and texture evolution of a cold-rolled Zr-4 sheet, and found that the sheet exhibited anisotropic yielding and hardening behavior. The anisotropic mechanical behavior was closely related to the initial texture and its evolution during plastic deformation.

Comparisons of low cycle fatigue response, damage mechanism, and life prediction of MarBN steel under stress and strain-controlled modes

Hong Zhang et al.

Summary: The low cycle fatigue response and damage mechanism of MarBN steel under symmetrical strain and stress-controlled modes at room temperature were investigated. Significant cyclic softening was observed, along with tension-compression asymmetry as a critical factor for controlling cyclic fatigue resistance. The relationship between damage mechanism and microstructure under both modes was discussed, and the impact of tension-compression asymmetry on the prediction model of fatigue life was examined based on an effective strain range-related model.

Microstructure evolution and crystallographic slip modes during grind hardening in TC21 titanium alloy

Yushi Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, microstructure evolution and slip mechanism of TC21 titanium alloy in grind hardening and aging treatment were investigated, showing that the hardened layer mainly consisted of TiN. Tensile strength and elongation increased after grind hardening process, with different effects observed in grind hardening and aging treatment. The study also demonstrated a method to deduce slip systems using interior crystall misorientation axis, identifying three major slip systems.

Quantitative Investigation on the Slip/Twinning Activity and Cracking Behavior During Low-Cycle Fatigue of an Extruded Mg-3Y Sheet

Y. C. Deng et al.

Summary: The slip-dominated deformation with basal slip as the dominant mode was responsible for the symmetrical hysteresis loops observed during the strain-controlled tension-compression low-cycle fatigue of extruded Mg-3Y sheet at room temperature. The cracking behavior revealed that intergranular cracks were more common than transgranular cracks, with persistent slip bands and twins identified as key transgranular crack initiation sites. Slip/twinning transfers at grain boundaries were occasionally observed and were closely associated with the formation of transgranular cracks.
