Effect of Al content on microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast AlxFeMnNiCrCu0.5 high-entropy alloys

Thanhung Nguyen et al.

Summary: The effect of aluminum content on the microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of AlxFeMnNiCrCu0.5 high-entropy alloys were investigated. It was found that the alloy's phase composition and hardness changed with an increase in the aluminum content, but higher aluminum content did not result in improved tensile properties. Al0.25FeMnNiCrCu0.5 alloy exhibited remarkable comprehensive mechanical properties.

Achieving exceptional strength-ductility synergy in a complex-concentrated alloy via architected heterogeneous grains and nano-sized precipitates

Jiantao Fan et al.

Summary: The development of alloys with excellent strength-ductility synergy has long been a research theme for material scientists. This study introduces a heterogeneously-grained microstructure containing recrystallized ultrafine and fine grains with dense nano-sized precipitates into a Co-free complex-concentrated alloy. The alloy exhibits ultra-high yield and tensile strength, accompanied by remarkable uniform elongation. Strain partition and hetero-deformation-induced stress accumulation contribute to the outstanding strength and ductility of the alloy.

Summary: The concept of multi-principal-component high-entropy alloys has led to the creation of numerous new alloys, including nanoscale precipitated HEAs with exceptional mechanical properties for structural applications. Finding the optimal alloy remains a challenge, with current approaches relying on trial-and-error methods and phase diagram calculations. This study proposes a novel method to accelerate the development of ultra-strong nanoprecipitated HEAs by utilizing machine learning and kinetic control for designing nanoscale precipitates.

Tensile deformation behavior and mechanical properties of a bulk cast Al0.9CoFeNi2 eutectic high-entropy alloy

Hui Jiang et al.

Summary: A new Al0.9CoFeNi2 eutectic high entropy alloy with a dual-phase lamellar microstructure exhibited superior strength and ductility. The study revealed the relationship between microstructure and properties, with the FCC (L1(2)) phase easier to deform than the B2 phase.

Nanoprecipitate-Strengthened High-Entropy Alloys

Liyuan Liu et al.

Summary: HEAs can be tuned to a simple phase with unique alloy characteristics, such as high strength and hardness with low ductility in BCC or HCP structures, and a combination of considerable ductility, excellent corrosion and radiation resistance in FCC structures. Precipitation strengthening is an effective method to enhance the strength of HEAs by forming fine and stable nanoscale precipitates. This paper reviews the recent progress in nanoprecipitate-strengthened HEAs and highlights alloy-design strategies and control of nanoscale precipitates.
