Summary: This research explores the effects of adding bismuth to Ge20Se80-xBix (0 < x < 12) chalcogenide glasses on their structural and optical properties. The study finds that increasing bismuth content leads to changes in various parameters such as density, molar volume, excess volume, optical bandgap, free volume percentage, and compactness. Monte Carlo technique is employed to evaluate gamma-ray attenuation ability, with the results showing varying trends based on energy levels and optimal shielding properties in samples with x = 10 and x = 12.
