This study explores the use of silica powders extracted from rice husk for the treatment of tannery wastewater. The effect of aging time on the adsorptive performance of silica is evaluated, and the sono-chemically prepared silica demonstrates good decontamination ability for tannery wastewater.
The silica powders extracted from rice husk through the normal, and sono-chemical precipitation were explored for the treatment of tannery wastewater. The effect of aging time on adsorptive performance of silica was evaluated via the studying the morphological, and textural characteristics. The uptake of chromium species seems to be dependent of aging time due to unimodal distribution of mesopores in the interval of 2.4-38.2 nm. The sono-chemically prepared silica exhibited a good affinity for the decontamination of tannery wastewater, 98 %, with adsorption capacity similar to 185 mg g(-1).
