In this study, a non-toxic and low hemolysis tourmaline/chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel was successfully prepared, which showed enhanced hemostatic efficiency through improved swelling properties and negative charge. It has the potential to be used as wound dressing.
As excessive bleeding is the main cause of death, the development of effective hemostatic wound dressing is of great significance. In this study, tourmaline/chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol hydrogels were prepared by freezingthawing method without chemical crosslinking agent. The results showed that the addition of tourmaline nanoparticles could enhance swelling property and increase negative charge of hydrogels. The hemostatic efficiency of hydrogels was significantly improved with the combined action of rapid liquid absorption and charge stimulation. Besides, it was showed that the modified hydrogels were non-toxic to cells and had low hemolysis ratio, which was potential as wound dressing.
