Hydrothermal synthesis of SrFe12O19 nanoparticles: effect of the choice of base and base concentration

Anna Zink Eikeland et al.

Summary: Platelet shaped strontium hexaferrite crystallites were synthesized hydrothermally to study the effect of different reaction parameters on their phase composition, structure, and magnetic properties. The use of NaOH as a base resulted in samples mainly composed of SrFe12O19 with small crystallite sizes, while the use of KOH led to phase composition variations depending on Fe/Sr molar ratios and KOH concentrations, with larger crystallites observed. The study highlights the importance of meticulous control of reaction parameters and structural analysis for the preparation and understanding of hard-magnetic SrFe12O19.

Investigation on the effect of neodymium doping on the magnetic, dielectric and microwave absorption properties of strontium hexaferrite particles in X-band

Avesh Garg et al.

Summary: Neodymium-doped strontium hexaferrites were developed as microwave absorbing materials, resulting in the formation of pure ferrite phase with smaller particle size due to neodymium acting as a growth inhibitor. Saturation magnetization and coercivity decreased with increasing neodymium doping concentration, leading to improved impedance matching and reflection loss. An optimal attenuation constant and reflection loss were observed at a doping concentration of X = 0.3, with a maximum reflection loss value of -40.595 dB at 9.62 GHz.

Summary: The study investigated the decrease of oxygen content and subsequent decomposition of SrFe12O19 at 750-950 degrees C through coulometric titration. It was found that the stability limits of SrFe12O19 under reducing conditions were determined, and the stepwise decomposition process showed specific characteristics of SrFe12O19. The double stepwise fall observed on oxygen content isotherms may indicate the presence of SrFe12O19 impurity.
