Improvement in tensile properties of 2219-T8 aluminum alloy TIG welding joint by PMZ local properties and stress distribution

Zhandong Wan et al.

Summary: The tensile properties of 2219-T8 aluminum alloy TIG welding joints were improved by enhancing the local properties of the partially melted zone (PMZ) and adjusting the stress distribution at the weld toe. Refining the grain size and controlling the theta phase particles in the base metal effectively increased the tensile strength and elongation of the PMZ.

Research on the cryogenic axial tensile fracture mechanism for 2219 aluminum alloy T-joint by dual laser-beam bilateral synchronous welding

Yanqiu Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the cryogenic axial tensile strength and fracture mechanism of a 2219 aluminum alloy T-joint fabricated using dual laser-beam bilateral synchronous welding (DLBSW) technology. The T-joint exhibits an average cryogenic axial tensile strength of 415 MPa, representing 76.9% of the base metal strength. The fracture mechanism is identified as intergranular ductile fracture, including cleavage fracture and microvoid coalescence fracture. The degradation of cryogenic axial tensile property is attributed to impurity phases, pores, and eutectics.

Tensile properties of TIG welded 2219-T8 aluminum alloy joints in consideration of residual stress releasing and specimen size

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tensile properties of TIG welded 2219-T8 aluminum alloy joints using different tensile specimen sizes. The effects of welding residual stress releasing, specimen size, and fracture criteria were considered. It was found that the degree of welding residual stress releasing decreased with increasing specimen width, leading to a decrease in tensile strength and elongation of the joints. The differences in tensile properties were attributed to size distinctions rather than residual stress releasing, and were accurately simulated using the Johnson-Cook fracture criterion.

Microstructure-based finite element analysis of mesoscale strain localization and macroscopic mechanical properties of aluminum alloy 2024 laser weld joint

Song Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a microstructure-based finite element model was established to investigate the mesoscale strain localization and macroscopic mechanical properties of laser-welded 2024 aluminum alloy joints. The results showed that the strain and stress distribution in the fusion zone were extremely inhomogeneous, with significant strain localization bands and high stress concentration zones. By optimizing the laser power and welding speed, the strength and ductility of the joint could be improved.

Indentation size effects in graphene oxide under suspended nanoindentation

E. Alejandra Huitron Segovia et al.

Summary: The study found that the mechanical properties of multilayers graphene oxide sheets varied with the number of layers, but when normalized by thickness, the nanoindentation tests showed a bulk elastic modulus of approximately 130 GPa from both systems. Finite element simulations demonstrated that the roughness of the GO sheets and the tip radius were fundamental factors influencing the different mechanical properties obtained through experimental and computational procedures.
