Comparing five methods for quantifying abundance and diversity of fish assemblages in seagrass habitat

Ben French et al.

Summary: The authors quantitatively compared different methods of collecting seagrass fish data and found that trawling and baited remote underwater video (BRUV) were the most effective methods for assessing species composition and change in seagrass fish assemblages, while diver operated video method was less effective.

A global assessment of fish estuary associations: A numerical approach to assessing estuary-associated fish functional guilds

Trevor D. Harrison et al.

Summary: The novel fish estuary-association scoring (FEAS) system numerically expresses the relative position or level of estuarine-association for each species, with a dataset established for about 6,000 fish species based on an extensive review of scientific literature. The FEAS reflects recognized fish estuary-association functional guilds and the continuum of fish estuarine use, with demonstrated applications in numerical analysis and functional comparison of estuarine fish communities globally, as well as potential use as an environmental monitoring and assessment tool.

Lower Vibrio spp. abundances in Zostera marina leaf canopies suggest a novel ecosystem function for temperate seagrass beds

Thorsten B. H. Reusch et al.

Summary: Seagrasses may play a role in reducing bacterial abundance in temperate regions, which helps in maintaining water quality and ecosystem functioning. However, the underlying mechanism is currently unclear and requires further study.
