Random copolymerization of macromonomers as a versatile strategy to synthesize mixed-graft block copolymers

An N. Le et al.

Summary: Random copolymerization of norbornene-functionalized macromonomers is a method for synthesizing mixed-graft block copolymers, which can lead to stable phase-separated nanostructures with different side chain compositions. The graft architecture enhances the processability of the material.

Ultrafast Self-Assembly of Bottlebrush Statistical Copolymers: Well-Ordered Nanostructures from One-Pot Polymerizations

Hua-Feng Fei et al.

Summary: The synthesis of a bottlebrush statistical copolymer (BSCP) architecture and its role in directing molecular packing in the bulk state is reported in this study. The BSCP was prepared via one-pot ring-opening metathesis polymerization of norbornene-capped macromonomers with similar reactivities, leading to a near-random compositional profile of polystyrene (PS) and poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) side chains along the backbone. The self-assembly of BSCP yielded oriented lamellar morphologies over large areas after thermal annealing without external guiding, providing potential applications in directed self-assembly of device architectures.

Yielding Behavior of Bottlebrush and Linear Block Copolymers

Renxuan Xie et al.

Summary: The study examined the linear-viscoelastic and yield-stress fluid behavior of two block copolymer architectures and their self-assembled structures. It was found that block copolymers forming body-centered cubic structures exhibit smaller yield strains, sharper solid-liquid transitions, and better reversibility compared to those forming hexagonally close-packed cylinders. Additionally, a power-law relationship was established for the normalized structural modulus dependence on inter-micelle distance across different architectures and morphologies.
