Stretchable and Durable Inverse Vulcanized Polymers with Chemical and Thermal Recycling

Peiyao Yan et al.

Summary: Inverse vulcanized polymer materials have attracted attention due to their use of sulfur as a starting material, and their unique structure makes them suitable for applications such as infrared imaging, energy storage, and heavy metal capture. However, synthesizing flexible sulfur polymers with high strength, high elongation, and high toughness remains a challenge. This study successfully synthesized cross-linked sulfur polymers with high tensile elongation and toughness, and demonstrated their solvent tolerance. The chemical and thermal recycling performance of these materials was also retained.

A bio-based, robust and recyclable thermoset polyester elastomer by using an inverse vulcanised polysulfide as a crosslinker

Dong Wang et al.

Summary: A bio-based, robust, and recyclable thermoset polyester elastomer was synthesized using an inverse vulcanised sulfur-polymer (SP) as a crosslinker for a bio-based polyester elastomer (BPE). The cross-linked BPE inherited dynamic di- and poly-sulfide bonds from SP, giving it superior mechanical properties and the ability to be malleable and recyclable.

Antibacterial Activity of Inverse Vulcanized Polymers

Romy A. Dop et al.

Summary: Inverse vulcanization is a method to synthesize high sulfur content polymers by polymerizing elemental sulfur with vinylic comonomers. The antibacterial properties of these polymers were tested against common pathogens, showing that test temperature and sulfur/comonomer ratios can affect efficacy. Results suggest potential for using these polymers as antibacterial surfaces.

The use of inverse vulcanised polysulfide as an intelligent interfacial modifier in rubber/carbon black composites

Dong Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the use of an inverse vulcanised polysulfide (SP) significantly decreased hysteresis loss in NR/CB composites by enhancing interfacial adhesion and improving CB dispersion. The modified composites showed reduced rolling resistance and heat build-up, demonstrating advantages in tire application such as reducing fuel consumption and extending service life.

Rubber-reinforced rubbers toward the combination of high reinforcement and low energy loss

Shifeng Fang et al.

Summary: A novel strategy of rubber-reinforced rubber (3R) is proposed, which combines significant reinforcement and high elasticity by utilizing a new reinforcing mechanism called soft matrix-induced large extensionability of hard rubber (SMILE-HR). This innovative approach conquers the contradiction between reinforcement and elasticity, making it very promising for engineering rubbers used in dynamic environments.

Adjusting silica/rubber interfacial interactions and properties via the click reactions between liquid polybutadiene and silane

Song Pang et al.

Summary: The study adjusted the interface interactions of silica/natural rubber through thiol-ene click reactions, achieving excellent silica dispersion and positioning. The TS2-NR composite exhibited the best static and dynamic properties, mainly due to the synergistic effects of TTPB and Si747.
