Closing the North American Magmatic Gap: Crustal evolution of the Clearwater Block from multi-isotope and trace element zircon data

Daniel T. Brennan et al.

Summary: This study reports new U-Pb, Lu-Hf, and O isotopic data and trace element results of zircon grains for the crystalline basement rocks in the Clearwater Block. These results provide insights into the crustal evolution of the Clearwater Block, including juvenile mantle-derived crustal growth, melting and metamorphism, and NAMG magmatism. The findings support a Laurentian origin for NAMG-age magmatism within the Clearwater Block.

Spatio-temporal evolution of Mesoproterozoic magmatism in NE Australia: A hybrid tectonic model for final Nuna assembly

S. Volante et al.

Summary: This article discusses the tectonic regimes in Northeast Australia during the late Proterozoic supercontinent assembly, Nuna. The study reveals a collision event that involved rock deformation and magma activity, along with the evolution of the magmatic record. The findings also propose a hybrid tectonic scenario that better explains the features of the region compared to traditional models.

Paleomagnetic constraints on the duration of the Australia-Laurentia connection in the core of the Nuna supercontinent

Uwe Kirscher et al.

Summary: The Australia-Laurentia connection in the Paleoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic supercontinent Nuna is believed to have started around 1.6 billion years ago, with new high-quality paleomagnetic data from around 1.3 billion years ago suggesting that the two continents were in the same configuration at that time. The breakup of Nuna likely occurred largely between around 1.3 and 1.2 billion years ago, with evidence pointing to a connection between Australia and North China during this period.

Detrital zircon U-Pb and Hf signatures of Paleo-Mesoproterozoic strata in the Priest River region, northwestern USA: A record of Laurentia assembly and Nuna tenure

Daniel T. Brennan et al.

Summary: The detrital zircon components in these sequences are crucial for understanding the assembly of Laurentia and the configuration of the supercontinent Nuna/Columbia. Some detrital zircon components are from non-Laurentian sources, potentially originating from the Gawler Craton in southeastern Australia.

Mineralization proximal to the final Nuna suture in northeastern Australia

Hugo K. H. Olierook et al.

Summary: The research investigated a series of rocks from the Empress Springs Project in northeast Australia, analyzing their crystallization, mineralization history, and geological setting. The findings suggest multiple episodes of granite emplacement, volcanic eruptions, and gold mineralization in the area. The Empress Springs Project is likely of epithermal origin, potentially forming around 1560-1550 Ma or 330-250 Ma.
