Neck pain: global epidemiology, trends and risk factors

Somaye Kazeminasab et al.

Summary: This literature review provides an overview of the global epidemiology and trends of neck pain, as well as the psychological and biological risk factors associated with its initiation and progression. The study reveals that long-term stress, lack of social support, anxiety, and depression are important psychological risk factors for neck pain, while certain diseases and demographic characteristics such as age and sex can also influence its occurrence and development.

Electroacupuncture ameliorates postoperative cognitive dysfunction and associated neuroinflammation via NLRP3 signal inhibition in aged mice

Long Sun et al.

Summary: Electroacupuncture (EA) treatment significantly improves cognitive dysfunction in POCD mice by inhibiting neuroinflammation, protecting hippocampal neurons and tight junction proteins. Mechanistically, the effects of EA treatment depend on the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome and NF-kappa B pathway activation.

BRD4 Inhibition Attenuates Inflammatory Pain by Ameliorating NLRP3 Inflammasome-Induced Pyroptosis

Tong Hua et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of BRD4 in inflammatory pain and suggests that BRD4 inhibition can attenuate inflammatory pain by regulating inflammasome and NF-kappa B activation, protecting neural cells from pyroptosis.

Epigenetic restoration of voltage-gated potassium channel Kv1.2 alleviates nerve injury-induced neuropathic pain

Jingjing Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that miR-137-mediated Kv1.2 impairment plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of nerve injury-induced neuropathic pain, suggesting it as a novel potential therapeutic target for neuropathic pain management.

Enhanced RIPK3 kinase activity-dependent lytic cell death in M1 but not M2 macrophages

Qin Hao et al.

Summary: The study revealed that M1 macrophages are more susceptible to inflammation-related lytic cell death compared to M2 macrophages, showing stronger responses to necroptosis inducers. This susceptibility is dependent on the kinase activity of RIPK3.

Effects of low- and high-frequency electroacupuncture on protein expression and distribution of TRPV1 and P2X3 in rats with peripheral nerve injury

Junying Du et al.

Summary: This study found that 2 Hz and 100 Hz electroacupuncture similarly induced analgesic effects in neuropathic pain models; this effect was related to the up-regulation and down-regulation of cytosol protein expression of P2X3 and TRPV1 in L4-L6 dorsal root ganglia, with 2 Hz showing a better effect than 100 Hz.

Inhibition of neuronal necroptosis mediated by RIP1/RIP3/MLKL provides neuroprotective effects on kaolin-induced hydrocephalus in mice

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: In a hydrocephalus mouse model, the necroptosis pathway inhibitor Nec-1 and GSK872 showed neuroprotective effects by reducing necrotic cell death, attenuating levels of p-RIP3 and p-MLKL, slightly improving neurobehaviors, and inhibiting microglial and astrocyte activation and inflammation. RIP1/RIP3/MLKL pathway mediates necroptosis in the cortex and hippocampus.

RIP3-mediated necroptosis increases neuropathic pain via microglia activation: necrostatin-1 has therapeutic potential

Ping Fang et al.

Summary: The study found that RIP3 promotes necroptosis to increase neuropathic pain occurrence via microglia. Treatment with Nec-1 significantly reduces RIP3 protein expression and the number of microglia, as well as decreases the expression levels of proinflammatory factors in the spinal dorsal horns.
