2D/3D Hybrid Cs2AgBiBr6 Double Perovskite Solar Cells: Improved Energy Level Alignment for Higher Contact-Selectivity and Large Open Circuit Voltage

Maximilian T. Sirtl et al.

Summary: The efficiency of lead-free halide perovskite solar cells based on Cs2AgBiBr6 has been limited to less than 3% since 2017 due to factors such as low electron diffusion length and poor selectivity of the contacts. In this study, 2D/3D hybrid double perovskites using phenethyl ammonium were introduced for the first time, resulting in a 10% improvement in efficiency compared to the 3D reference. This improvement is mainly attributed to higher V-OC values and improved recombination behavior and selectivity at the interface.

Applications of Lead-Free Cs2AgBiBr6 Single Crystals in Photodetectors and Self-Powered Photodetectors by Symmetric/Asymmetric Electrodes

Danda Hao et al.

Summary: Lead halide hybrid perovskites have been extensively studied as light-harvesting materials due to their unique optoelectrical characteristics and easy deposition method. However, toxicity and stability issues have hindered their further development. In this study, stable lead-free Cs2AgBiBr6 single crystals with excellent photoelectric properties were prepared. Symmetric Au electrodes resulted in photodetectors with broad spectral response, high responsivity, external quantum efficiency, and detectivity. Interestingly, asymmetric electrodes (Au and Ag) led to the development of the first self-driven photodetector based on the lead-free perovskite single crystals, showing good photoresponse properties at 0 V bias. Both devices demonstrated short response times at the microsecond scale and good stability without encapsulation, indicating great potential for optoelectronic device applications.

Low-temperature process for self-powered lead-free Cs2AgBiBr6 perovskite photodetector with high detectivity

Zihao Shuang et al.

Summary: In recent years, solution-processed lead halide perovskites have achieved significant advancements in optoelectronic devices. However, the instability and toxicity of lead halide materials limit their commercial development. Bismuth-based double perovskite materials have gained attention due to their high thermal stability and non-toxicity. Unfortunately, the current preparation process requires high post-treatment temperature, affecting the interfaces and flexibility. This study successfully reduced the fabrication temperature and improved the stability and performance of flexible lead-free perovskite photodetectors.

Summary: This study calculated the phonon-limited mobility of charge carriers in Cs2AgBiBr6 through ab initio calculations, revealing that the lower mobility of this compound compared to lead-based perovskites is attributed to heavier carrier effective masses. The results suggest that reducing effective masses, for example through cation engineering, is necessary to increase the mobility of lead-free perovskites.

Highly Sensitive Narrowband Photomultiplication-Type Organic Photodetectors Prepared by Transfer-Printed Technology

Zijin Zhao et al.

Summary: Narrowband photomultiplication-type organic photodetectors (PMOPDs) were developed using poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) as the optical field adjusting (OFA) layer and transfer-printed P3HT:[6,6]-phenyl-C-71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as the photomultiplication (PM) layer. The addition of a wide bandgap polymer poly[N,N'-bis(4-butylphenyl)-N,N'-bis(phenyl)benzidine] (P-TPD) into the OFA layer significantly enhanced the device performance, with improved hole tunneling injection and transport efficiency attributed to increased trapped electron density near the Al electrode and improved hole mobility. The promising potential of PMOPDs in imaging applications was demonstrated through clear imaging without the need for current preamplifiers.
