The generation of femtosecond optical vortex beams with megawatt powers directly from a fiber based Mamyshev oscillator

Di Lin et al.

Summary: Efficient generation of high-peak-power femtosecond optical vortex pulses with selectable topological charge has been successfully demonstrated from a fiber oscillator using a few-mode polarization-maintaining ytterbium-doped fiber. This unprecedented performance level is of great interest for applications such as materials processing and imaging.

Polarization-insensitive, high-gain parametric amplification of radially polarized femtosecond pulses

Haizhe Zhong et al.

Summary: This paper presents a high-gain optical parametric amplifier for radially polarized femtosecond pulses, demonstrating >1000-fold amplification and maintaining axially symmetric intensity profile and radial polarization state within a 20 nm spectral range. The amplification scheme shows promise for creating radially polarized femtosecond pulses with ultrahigh powers, potentially advancing applications in strong-field physics.

Structured laser beams: toward 2-μm femtosecond laser vortices

Yongguang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study successfully generates ultrashort-pulse Hermite- and Laguerre-Gaussian laser modes with a pulse duration of around 100 fs from a compact solid-state laser in combination with a simple single-cylindrical-lens converter, pushing the advancement of such femtosecond structured laser sources into the 2-mu m spectral region. The negligible beam astigmatism, broad optical spectra, and almost chirp-free pulses highlight the high reliability of this laser source.

Tm:YAG single-crystal fiber laser

Jian Liu et al.

Summary: In this Letter, the authors present the first thulium (Tm) single-crystal fiber (SCF) laser with free-space propagation of the laser beam, achieving an output power of 9.1W at 2.02 µm with a slope efficiency of 49.4% by utilizing mode matching and pump guiding in different SCF parts. This approach, based on combining the advantages of fiber-geometry structure and crystalline properties of Tm:YAG, is expected to be useful for 2 µm amplification stages in different time formats.
