Randomized Trial of Radiotherapy Versus Transoral Robotic Surgery for Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Long-Term Results of the ORATOR Trial

Anthony C. Nichols et al.

Summary: The study found that for early-stage OPSCC, radiotherapy performed better in terms of long-term swallowing quality of life compared to transoral robotic surgery plus neck dissection, although this difference decreases over time. Some differences in QOL concerns gradually resolved in the long term, but it is worth noting that TORS patients started using more nutritional supplements at 3 years, and dry mouth scores increased over time in RT patients.

Long-term quality of life & functional outcomes after treatment of oropharyngeal cancer

Susanne I. Scott et al.

Summary: A longitudinal comparison of functional and quality of life outcomes in patients treated for OPSCC revealed persistent impairment in swallowing function in both groups, with only the TORS group showing worse scores in one QoL subscale (sticky saliva) at 12-month follow-up.

Decreasing treatment burden in HPV-related OPSCC: A systematic review of clinical trials

Giuseppe Carlo Iorio et al.

Summary: The article discusses the potential toxicity burden and de-escalation strategies following standard chemoradiotherapy for HPV-related oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients. Various approaches to therapy de-escalation are explored, including local and systemic strategies. It is advised not to make any changes in management or deviate from the standard of care outside of clinical trials while awaiting further evidence.
