Solid Lubricants of Combined Graphene and Iron Nanoparticles for Study of Friction and Stability

Le Van Sang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on designing solid lubricant particles by combining graphene and iron nanoparticles, referred to as graphene-iron (GI) particles, and studying their lubrication behaviors for iron contacts through molecular dynamics simulations. The GI particles exhibit strong effects on friction at low pressure, but minimal effects at high pressure, providing stability of the friction coefficient over a wide range of pressure and achieving ultralow values of friction coefficient in iron contacts. Compared to previous reports, the GI particles have better lubrication performance and stability under pressure due to the contributions of graphene and the reduced contact area configuration of the nanoparticles.

Material transfer mechanism for fabrication of superlubricity interface by reciprocating rubbing on graphite under high contact stress

Kang Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, a plasma-assisted mechanical exfoliation and tribo-transfer method was developed to fabricate graphene nanoflake wrapped atomic force microscopy (AFM) tips, achieving superlubricity. Systematic investigations were conducted on the material transfer mechanism, revealing the deformation, delamination, and sliding characteristics of graphene. These results are of great significance for understanding superlubricity and its application in mechanical systems.

Graphite superlubricity enabled by triboinduced nanocontacts

Renato Buzio et al.

Summary: This study investigates the frictional response of micrometric silica beads sliding on graphite under ambient conditions using colloidal probe atomic force microscopy. The experiment reveals that tribotransferred graphene flakes act as lubricious nanoasperities, reducing the true contact area and governing mechanical dissipation. The load-driven atomic-scale transition from superlubric sliding to stick-slip behavior is consistent with the Prandtl-Tomlinson model.
