Enhanced oil recovery: QM/MM based descriptors for anionic surfactant salt-resistance

Wannian Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates four virtual descriptors of two anionic surfactants through simulation and analysis, and determines the relationships between these descriptors and the interfacial properties of the surfactants. The descriptors accurately evaluate the performance of the surfactants and reveal the patterns for different surfactants and ion concentration gradients.

Supramolecular Gel Lubricants with Excellent Lubricity and Load-Carrying Performances Act Synergistically via Two Layers of Tribofilm

Ao Xie et al.

Summary: In this study, a class of perfluorinated gel lubricants (PFGs) was prepared to address the lubrication failure under heavy load condition. PFGs exhibit excellent lubricity and load-carrying performances while avoiding lubrication failure and environmental pollution. The lubrication mechanism of PFGs was investigated, demonstrating their potential applications in heavy load conditions.

Synthesis and self-assembly of novel pH triggered smart organogelators from novel alkyl-substituted chalcone-based hydrazonotriazole derivatives

Jihan Qurban et al.

Summary: Chalcones are a significant group of compounds widely used in the treatment of various diseases and as cosmetic and food additives. A series of new derivatives have been synthesized and found to possess pH-induced and thermally reversible low molecular weight gelator properties. These gelators efficiently gelate various organic solvents and exhibit sol-gel switching with a colorimetric shift. The nonyloxy-substituted chalcone-based gelator shows the optimum gelation activity and thermal stability. Furthermore, the synthesized gelators exhibit cytotoxicity and antibacterial activities.

MIA-Directed 2-Pyridione-Enabled Selective Ortho-C-H Arylation of Phenylalanine: A Mechanistic Study

Peng-Peng Niu et al.

Summary: The selective monoarylation at the ortho position of substituted phenylalanines was achieved with the aid of pyridone ligands, which decelerate the arylation process. Computational results showed that the introduction of pyridone ligands disfavors the second arylation stage, contributing to the selectivity between monoarylated and diarylated products. The findings were supported by results of kinetic isotope effect and a control experiment.

Pyromellitic-Based Low Molecular Weight Gelators and Computational Studies of Intermolecular Interactions: A Potential Additive for Lubricant

Wannian Zhang et al.

Summary: LMWG have been extensively researched for their reversible gel-sol transformation, with intermolecular interactions driving self-assembly. BHTA was found to efficiently form stable organogels, with FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, and MD simulations elucidating the significant influence of H-bonding interactions on gel stability. The self-assembly process was mainly driven by dense H-bonding interactions between carbonyl acid and amide moieties of BHTA.

Di-ortho-C-H arylation of phenylalanine: A bimetallic interaction between Pd(IV)-Ag(I)

Qian Tao et al.

Summary: The direct di-ortho-arylation of substituted phenylalanines has been achieved via methoxyiminoacyl (MIA)-mediated Pd-catalyzed C-H functionalization, providing a diverse array of phenylalanine derivatives with good to high efficiency. Computational results showed a bimetallic interaction between Pd(IV)-Ag(I) through localized orbital, which favored the reductive elimination step of the arylation process.

Geometry transformation of ionic surfactants and adsorption behavior on water/n-decane-interface: calculation by molecular dynamics simulation and DFT study

Wannian Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of surfactant structure on modifying interfacial properties, with the anionic surfactant containing polyethylene oxide groups showing the lowest surface tension at the water/n-decane interface. Molecular dynamics simulations and DFT studies revealed that the structural differences of the surfactants influenced their interactions at the interface, leading to variations in weak interactions and ultimately affecting the properties of the interfaces.
