Matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (mACI) versus autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC) for chondral defects of the knee: a systematic review

Filippo Migliorini et al.

Summary: Chondral defects of the knee are common and challenging to treat. Both AMIC and mACI have been used for managing these defects, but their equivalent outcomes at midterm follow-up are debated. Further studies are needed to investigate whether AMIC provides superior outcomes compared to mACI.

Summary: The study found that short-term radiological outcomes after spheroid-based ACI in the knee are not affected by defect localization, showing good results regardless of the area of the defect.

Knee osteochondritis dissecans-treatment technical aspects

Mats Brittberg

Summary: This paper aims to summarize treatment alternatives for different stages of knee osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) based on patient age and the stability of the affected osteochondral area. Good clinical results can be expected when the patients are still growing, the osteochondritis is small, and the stability of the condition is confirmed by MRI. Unstable OCD lesions typically require operative treatment with fixation methods, and if refixation is not possible, various local chondral and osteochondral repairs are available. The final treatment choice depends on the viability and form of the fragments.

Filippo Migliorini et al.

Summary: In midterm follow-up, arthroscopy and mini-arthrotomy approaches for matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation in knee show similar outcomes, including duration of symptoms, age, body mass index, gender, defect size, Tegner Score, Lysholm Score, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) Score, as well as failure rate and revision rate.

Matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation versus autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis for chondral defects of the talus: a systematic review

Filippo Migliorini et al.

Summary: The treatment of chondral defects of the talus is challenging, with membrane-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (mACI) and autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC) proposed as methods. There is controversy over whether AMIC provides better outcomes compared to mACI for chondral regeneration, with further research needed to clarify the best treatment method.

Filippo Migliorini et al.

Summary: Chondral defects of the knee are common and challenging to manage. While membrane-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (mACI) has been widely used, the effectiveness of hyaluronic acid membrane compared to collagenic membrane at midterm follow-up is controversial, requiring further research for validation.
