Modeling and modal analysis of suspension bridge based on continual formula method

Summary: A continuous model for the dynamic analysis of a suspension bridge with inclined main cables and hangers is developed. Modal analysis is conducted with variations of system parameters, demonstrating phenomena of crossover and veering of eigenfrequency loci. The effects of variations in stiffness matrix on the eigenfunction are studied, identifying conditions for crossover and veering of the eigenfrequency loci in the bridge model.

Effects of sinusoidal streamwise gust on the vortex-induced force on an oscillating 5:1 rectangular cylinder

Summary: This study investigated the vortex-induced force on an oscillating rectangular cylinder encountering a sinusoidal streamwise gust through wind tunnel tests and CFD simulations. The results show that the Karman-vortex-induced force almost disappeared in the sinusoidal gust, while the motion-induced force remained almost unchanged. The CFD simulations revealed that the flow structure around the rectangular cylinder is sensitive to the oncoming flow condition, suppressing alternative vortex shedding in the near wake.
