Effects of meteorological conditions and topography on the bioaccumulation of PAHs and metal elements by native lichen ( Xanthoria parietina )

Julien Dron et al.

Summary: The bioaccumulation of pollutants in lichens is significantly influenced by meteorological conditions, especially in areas near major industrial emission sources like large industrial harbors. Factors such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall can affect pollutant levels in lichens. Short-term (1-2 months) meteorological variations, particularly wind direction, play a key role in bioaccumulation, while the influence of local emissions on a longer time scale (12 months) should also be considered.

Environmental and Dietary Exposures Near a Major Industrial Harbour (Fos-sur-Mer, France) Identified as a Significant Pathway for PCBs and PCDD/Fs Accumulation in Residents' Blood Serum

Maxime Jeanjean et al.

Summary: Residents living near the core of an industrial zone in Fos-sur-Mer, France were found to have higher serum levels of organochlorine indicators, which was linked to behaviors involving environmental exposures. Additionally, spatial and temporal variations of pollutants were observed in the area.

Concentrations and transportation of metal and organochlorine pollutants in vegetables and risk assessment of human exposure in rural, urban and industrial environments (Bouches-du-Rhone, France)

Annabelle Austruy et al.

Summary: The study assessed the bioaccumulation of metals and organochlorine compounds in soils and vegetables from areas of differing anthropogenic influence. It found that organic pollutants were more prevalent in soils from industrial areas, and although vegetable pollutant levels were generally below EU regulations, they were significantly higher in industrialized areas compared to rural areas.
