Highly Fluorescent Carbon Dots as a Potential Fluorescence Probe for Selective Sensing of Ferric Ions in Aqueous Solution

Raji Atchudan et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method for developing a fluorescent chemosensor for Fe3+ ions using hydrophilic carbon dots, synthesized from Oxalis corniculata through a simple, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly hydrothermal synthesis process. The resulting O-CDs exhibit good physical and chemical properties, high quantum yield, and stable fluorescence, making them suitable for sensitive and selective detection of Fe3+ ions in aqueous solutions. This nanosensor shows promise for biomedical applications due to its high biocompatibility and cellular imaging capabilities.
