Aberrations in Lipid Expression and Metabolism in Psoriasis

Julia Nowowiejska et al.

Summary: Psoriasis is a common skin disease affecting about 1%-3% of the general population, often accompanied by cardiometabolic disorders. Research indicates that lipid expression and metabolism disorders are more common in psoriatic patients, playing a significant role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Next-generation sequencing of the whole mitochondrial genome identifies novel and common variants in patients with psoriasis, type 2 diabetes mellitus and psoriasis with comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus

Materah Salem Alwehaidah et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variants play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis (Ps) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in different ethnicities. This study sequenced the entire mitochondrial genomes of Kuwaiti subjects with Ps, T2D, Ps-T2D, and healthy controls, identifying both novel and known mtDNA variants. The patient-specific novel non-synonymous mutations may contribute to the development of these diseases, suggesting a potential role of certain mtDNA variants in predisposing patients to Ps and T2D.
