Galvanic replacement managing direct methanol fuel cells: AgPt nanotubes as a strategy for methanol crossover effect tolerance

Mesaque Carvalho Franca et al.

Summary: The methanol crossover effect reduces the efficiency of direct methanol fuel cells, so methanol dilution is necessary. However, the concentration of methanol is important for improving the performance of electrochemical devices. Therefore, the rational design of efficient electrocatalysts for these systems is vital, using an ORR mechanism.

A strain-engineered self-intercalation Ta9Se12 based bifunctional single atom catalyst for oxygen evolution and reduction reactions

Hai-Cai Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, the catalytic performance of different transition-metal atoms embedded into the surface of the self-intercalation structure Ta9Se12 for oxygen evolution and reduction reactions was evaluated. The results showed that the self-intercalated Ta layer significantly improved the stability and catalytic activity of the system. Under external force, the charge in the inner layer would diffuse to the surface, providing the possibility for continuous regulation of the catalysts' performance. This work elucidated a new approach for designing high-efficient and stable bifunctional catalysts.

Copper embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon matrix derived from metal-organic frameworks for boosting peroxide production and electro-Fenton catalysis

Yunting Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrated that MOFs-derived Cu/N-C can serve as a highly efficient catalyst for two-electron ORR, producing H2O2 and OH simultaneously for pollutant degradation. Through physical characterization and electrochemical analysis, the Cu/N-C catalyst showed superior ORR performance and long-term stability. The synergetic effect between dispersed copper and nitrogen groups contributes to the enhanced two-electron ORR properties.

Mechanistic insights into the catalytic reduction of nitrophenols on noble metal nanoparticles/N-doped carbon black composites

Fengyan Han et al.

Summary: Efficient nitrophenol reduction was achieved on Pd and Au nanoparticles decorated nitrogen-doped carbon black (NCB), with Pd/NCB nanohybrids showing better performance in the catalytic reduction reaction of 4-nitrophenol compared to Au/NCB catalysts. The improved performance can be attributed to the size of metal nanoparticles, good dispersity and interactions between noble metal nanoparticles and the support.
