Pharmacist-led sedative-hypnotic deprescribing in team-based primary care practice

Eric Lui et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of a community team-based inter-professional sedative-hypnotic deprescribing program, finding that nearly two-thirds of patients participating were able to successfully discontinue or taper their medications by >= 50%. The role of CBT-I in sedative-hypnotic deprescribing still needs further elucidation.

How do contraindications to non-opioid analgesics and opioids affect the likelihood that patients with back pain diagnoses in the primary care setting receive an opioid prescription? An observational cross-sectional study

Michelle S. Keller et al.

Summary: Patients with diagnoses of kidney disease and concurrent use of anticoagulants/antiplatelet medications had a higher probability of receiving an opioid prescription at a primary care visit for low back pain, but these conditions do not explain a large proportion of the opioid prescriptions.

Summary: This study aims to reduce hospital readmissions in older adults through pharmacist-led peri-discharge interventions, using a pragmatic approach and randomized clinical trial design. The research will investigate the impact of various interventions on readmission rates, as well as barriers to and facilitators of implementing the PHARM-DC intervention.

The Barriers and Facilitators of Different Stakeholders When Deprescribing Benzodiazepine Receptor Agonists in Older Patients-A Systematic Review

Anja Fog Rasmussen et al.

Summary: The use of benzodiazepines and Z-drugs in older patients is associated with increased risk of side effects, but deprescribing can help reduce inappropriate medication. Patients are more willing to deprescribe compared to physicians, with barriers identified among healthcare professionals like lack of knowledge and resistance from patients. Education is a key facilitator in successful deprescribing interventions.
