Aqueous Biphasic Dye-Sensitized Photosynthesis Cells for TEMPO-Based Oxidation of Glycerol

Didjay F. Bruggeman et al.

Summary: This study reports a dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical cell that is capable of oxidizing glycerol and producing hydrogen. The use of a redox-gel layer with a high potential dye-sensitized mesoporous TiO2 photoanode protects the photoanode from degradation and significantly improves the conversion rate of glycerol. The redox-gel protected photoanode also demonstrates stable photocurrent over extended periods of continuous operation.

Photocatalytic Chemoselective C-C Bond Cleavage at Room Temperature in Dye-Sensitized Photoelectrochemical Cells

Shuya Li et al.

Summary: Selective cleavage of C-C bonds in lignin at ambient temperature was achieved using a HAT-DSPEC system, which combines a dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical cell with a hydrogen atom transfer mediator under redox-neutral conditions. The system demonstrated excellent efficiency and selectivity in the cleavage of the C(aryl)-C(alkyl) bond under solar irradiation.

Unassisted Photoelectrochemical Cell with Multimediator Modulation for Solar Water Splitting Exceeding 4% Solar-to-Hydrogen Efficiency

Sheng Ye et al.

Summary: This study achieved efficient unassisted overall water splitting by using a photoelectrochemical platform with multimediator modulation, increasing solar energy conversion efficiency. By assembling an integrated system composed of inorganic oxide-based photoanode and organic polymer-based photocathode, the efficiency of solar-to-hydrogen conversion was successfully improved.

Dye-Sensitized Photoelectrosynthesis Cells for Benzyl Alcohol Oxidation Using a Zinc Porphyrin Sensitizer and TEMPO Catalyst

Emmanouil Nikoloudakis et al.

Summary: This study presents a TiO2-based dye-sensitized photo-electrosynthesis cell (DSPEC) using a ZnP sensitizer and a TEMPO catalyst for efficient light-driven oxidation reactions. Different ZnP-TEMPO dyads with varying anchoring groups showed superior performance in dye-sensitized solar cells. The results demonstrate that the dyads exhibit different photocatalytic properties for aldehyde oxidation under different conditions.
