The Influence of ZnO-ZrO2 Interface in Hydrogenation of CO2 to CH3OH

Petr Sot et al.

Summary: This research investigates the influence of the interface in ZnO-ZrO2 catalysts for the selective hydrogenation of CO2 to CH3OH. The structure of the catalyst was perturbed using two different synthetic methods and the resulting materials were analyzed using spectroscopic techniques. The study found that oxidic Zn particles co-existing with ZrO2 showed superior selectivity compared to other forms of Zn. Further experiments confirmed the importance of the ZnO-ZrO2 interface in the selective production of CH3OH.

Bulk and surface transformations of Ga2O3 nanoparticle catalysts for propane dehydrogenation induced by a H2 treatment

Pedro Castro-Fernandez et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of H2 treatment on the structure, acidity, and catalytic activity of γ/β-Ga2O3 nanoparticle catalysts. The results show that the presence of the β-Ga2O3 phase increases the PDH activity of the catalysts, and H2 treatment enhances the catalytic activity for all three catalysts through different mechanisms.

Highly Active and Selective Sites for Propane Dehydrogenation in Zeolite Ga-BEA

Lingli Ni et al.

Summary: A highly selective Ga-modified zeolite BEA has been successfully synthesized for propane dehydrogenation. The propane dehydrogenation rate is determined by different factors under different conditions. The active sites are identified as dehydrated and tetrahedrally coordinated Ga3+, and the selectivity towards aromatics is low.

Ga+-Chabazite Zeolite: A Highly Selective Catalyst for Nonoxidative Propane Dehydrogenation

Yong Yuan et al.

Summary: By studying the mechanism of Ga-chabazite zeolites in propane dehydrogenation, it is found that the extra-framework Ga+ sites are the active center catalyzing propane dehydrogenation, while the accumulation of polycyclic aromatics is the main cause of deactivation.

Unraveling the Surface Hydroxyl Network on In2O3 Nanoparticles with High-Field Ultrafast Magic Angle Spinning Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

Qiao Han et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated enhanced discrimination of surface hydroxyl groups using high-resolution 1H NMR spectra on nanostructured In2O3, identifying nine distinct types of hydroxyl groups and their assignments. Two-dimensional correlation experiments further unveiled the spatial distribution of these hydroxyl groups on the surface, providing insights into the complex surface hydroxyl network at the atomic level. The high-resolution quantitative analysis of these hydroxyl groups enables further investigation into the physicochemical properties and catalytic performance characteristics of metal oxide materials, potentially paving the way for broader applications of high-field ultrafast MAS NMR techniques.

Propane Dehydrogenation on Ga2O3-Based Catalysts: Contrasting Performance with Coordination Environment and Acidity of Surface Sites

Pedro Castro-Fernandez et al.

Summary: The study investigated the coordination environment and acidity of surface sites in different Ga2O3 catalysts for propane dehydrogenation, with spectroscopic data suggesting that weak Lewis acid surface sites in beta-Ga2O3 contribute to its superior catalytic activity compared to alpha-Ga2O3 and gamma-Ga2O3.

Strain in Silica-Supported Ga(III) Sites: Neither Too Much nor Too Little for Propane Dehydrogenation Catalytic Activity

C. S. Praveen et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the catalytic activity of Ga(III) sites on SiO2 towards propane dehydrogenation (PDH) reaction using first-principles calculations. The research demonstrates the importance of strain on the reactivity of these sites, highlighting the need for a balance in strain for an effective catalytic site for PDH. Overall, the work provides insights into the intrinsic activity of acidic Ga single sites on SiO2 towards the PDH reaction and suggests potential for designing better single-site catalysts.

A Molecular Analogue of the C-H Activation Intermediate of the Silica-Supported Ga(III) Single-Site Propane Dehydrogenation Catalyst: Structure and XANES Signature

Lukas Rochlitz et al.

Summary: Propane dehydrogenation is an important research field with a high worldwide demand for propene. Silica-supported Ga(III) sites synthesized from surface organometallic chemistry principles show high selectivity and stability, in contrast to other materials, and detailed structural and spectroscopic information of Ga alkyl intermediates is desired for further understanding the reaction mechanism.

Understanding the Correlation between Ga Speciation and Propane Dehydrogenation Activity on Ga/H-ZSM-5 Catalysts

Yong Yuan et al.

Summary: Research showed that Ga+-H+ pair sites are more active in nonoxidative propane dehydrogenation (PDH) than isolated Ga+ sites, and GaHx decomposition is unlikely to be part of the PDH mechanism. Experimental measurements and models were used to determine the activation energy characteristics of the PDH reaction on Ga/H-ZSM-5 catalysts, highlighting the possibility of an alkyl mechanism.

Catalytic Interplay of Ga, Pt, and Ce on the Alumina Surface Enabling High Activity, Selectivity, and Stability in Propane Dehydrogenation

Han Chang Kwon et al.

Summary: Based on Pt, bimetallic catalysts have been widely studied in propane dehydrogenation due to their high activity in C-H cleavage and propylene selectivity. Recent research has shown that the selective generation of atomically dispersed Ce3+ on the gamma-Al2O3 surface is crucial for stabilizing Pt-0 species and achieving high catalytic activity, selectivity, and longevity in PDH. Excessive Ce loading can lead to a more severe loss of catalytic activity and selectivity.

Silica-Supported PdGa Nanoparticles: Metal Synergy for Highly Active and Selective CO2-to-CH3OH Hydrogenation

Scott R. Docherty et al.

Summary: The study found that small, alloyed PdGa nanoparticles prepared through surface organometallic chemistry exhibit high activity and selectivity in catalyzing the hydrogenation of CO2 to CH3OH, compared to silica-supported Pd nanoparticles. Alloying is observed in the material, with a dynamic dealloying/realloying process occurring through Ga redox.
